As tire tread wears down, the tire has less ability to channel water away from the contact area. NHTSA considers tires worn to 2/32 of an inch unsafe and says they should be replaced at that point. Tread should also be inspected for uneven wear, cuts, bulges, punctures, and other damage. A quick tire inspection can reveal problems that aren't noticeable from the driver's seat. At State Automotive, we inspect tire tread at each visit and track tire wear over time so that you can plan ahead for when it's time to replace your tires.
