My father married my mother's sister just a few months after her funeral — but at their wedding, my brother pulled me aside and said, "YOU NEED TO KNOW THE TRUTH ABOUT DAD. MOM FOUND SOMETHING OUT ABOUT HIM BEFORE SHE DIED."
A few months ago, my mother was gone after a long battle with cancer. My younger brother and I held her hand until the very end.
Not long after her funeral, our father invited us to dinner.
That night, he told us he had fallen in love and didn't want to hide it anymore. He explained that he was already in a relationship with Claire — my mother's younger sister.
I experienced like someone had dumped ice water over my head.
He explained that after Mom died, the two of them had spent a lot of time together, supporting each other through the grief. Their shared pain had brought them closer.
He said life was too short to wait, so he had proposed to her, and they had already began planning the wedding.
I didn't know how to react.
I couldn't understand how he could move on so quickly.
But I trusted him.
Maybe this was just how he found comfort after losing Mom.
My aunt planned the wedding quickly.
At the wedding, guests laughed and celebrated, and even the rest of our family seemed happy for my father and Claire.
I forced myself to smile and congratulate Dad. But I was still overwhelmed and puzzled by the entire situation, so I mostly stood off to the side.
Then out of nowhere, my brother tapped me on the shoulder.
He had arrived very late to the wedding. He looked breathless and flushed, like he'd been running.
"I need to talk to you," he murmured, gripping my hand tightly.
He pulled me away from everyone else.
And that's when he leaned in and said:
"You need to know the truth about Dad. HE'S NOT WHO HE PRETENDED TO BE."
"What do you mean?" I said softly, frozen.
With unsteady hands, he reached into the pocket of his suit jacket and pulled out an envelope.
"Mom's lawyer just gave me this letter," he said quietly.
"She wrote it before she died... after she found out WHAT Dad had been hiding from everyone." ⬇️
