Before the 427… before the LS… there was the mighty 409.

Back in the early ’60s, Chevrolet’s W-series engines helped ignite America’s horsepower wars and turned ordinary streets into battlegrounds every Friday night.

The 348 and 409 weren’t just engines — they became legends.

Huge torque.
Unique “W” valve covers.
And enough power to make young gearheads dream about drag racing glory.

The 409 especially became a cultural icon. Once The Beach Boys released their famous “409” song, every kid in America suddenly knew exactly what those three numbers meant.

“Four-speed, dual quad, positraction…”

That sound.
That attitude.
That era.

These engines powered everything from Impalas to Bel Airs and became feared competitors at drag strips across the country. Long before modern computers and turbochargers, hot rodders chased speed the old-fashioned way — with cubic inches and carburetors.

And honestly, few engine bays look cooler than a dual-quad 409 sitting under the hood of an early ’60s Chevy.

Chrome air cleaners.
Cast-iron horsepower.
Pure American nostalgia.

Today, the W-motors still hold a special place among Chevy fans because they represent the beginning of Chevrolet’s rise to muscle car dominance.

If you had to choose one, would you take a 348 tri-power… or a dual-quad 409?

🚨 OVER 1 MILLION JEEP WRANGLERS & GLADIATORS RECALLED 🚨

If you own a 2021–2025 Jeep Wrangler or Gladiator, you may want to check your VIN.

Stellantis has announced a massive recall affecting 1,076,699 vehicles due to a potential fire risk linked to the electric hydraulic power steering system wiring. In rare cases, an electrical connection can overheat and potentially lead to a vehicle fire—even when the vehicle is parked and turned off.

According to the recall documents, warning signs may include:
⚠️ Loss of power steering
⚠️ “Service Power Steering” message on the dash
⚠️ Electrical burning smell

Jeep is advising affected owners to park their vehicles outside and away from buildings or other vehicles until repairs are completed. Dealers will inspect and repair the issue free of charge once the remedy becomes available. Owner notification letters are expected to begin going out in July.

The recall covers:
• 2021–2025 Jeep Wrangler
• 2021–2025 Jeep Gladiator

So far, Stellantis has reported dozens of incidents potentially linked to the defect, including one reported injury, but no known crashes.

Wrangler and Gladiator owners, have you received any recall notices yet?

"While much of the automotive industry is moving toward smaller engines and electrification, Porsche is still exploring the limits of internal combustion. A recently discovered patent reveals an ambitious 18-cylinder ""true W"" engine concept that could represent one of the most extreme powertrains ever envisioned by the company.

Unlike traditional W-engine layouts, Porsche's design uses three banks of six cylinders, each with dedicated intake and exhaust systems. This configuration is intended to improve airflow, reduce heat buildup, and maximize efficiency despite the engine's massive cylinder count.

The patent also allows for up to three turbochargers, one serving each cylinder bank, suggesting enormous performance potential. Remarkably, Porsche claims the design could remain relatively compact, occupying space similar to a conventional inline-six engine.

Another intriguing aspect is its modular architecture. The design could theoretically be configured as a 12-cylinder, 15-cylinder, or full 18-cylinder engine depending on the vehicle and performance requirements.

There is currently no indication that Porsche plans to put the engine into production, but the patent demonstrates that the company continues to explore bold combustion technologies even as the industry shifts toward electrification.

Whether it eventually powers a future halo hypercar or remains a fascinating engineering exercise, the concept proves Porsche is still thinking far beyond conventional performance limits.

Subaru Just Threw Manual Transmission Fans a Lifeline 👀

While most automakers continue killing off stick shifts, Subaru is going the opposite direction. The company has confirmed it’s developing three new manual-transmission performance models, and the teaser image has enthusiasts buzzing. Early indications point to a next-generation WRX sedan, a WRX hatchback, and a new BRZ all offering a manual gearbox.

Subaru also appears to be working on a stronger manual transmission for future performance applications, showing that the brand still sees value in keeping drivers engaged behind the wheel. In a world full of CVTs and EVs, that’s refreshing news for enthusiasts.

For 2026, the WRX and BRZ are currently Subaru’s only manual-transmission models in many markets, making this announcement a big deal for anyone worried the stick shift was on borrowed time.

Would you buy a new WRX hatchback with a 6-speed manual, or is the BRZ the one you’d choose? 🤔👇
