WRONG POLISHING PAD = WASTED TIME, MONEY & A POOR FINISH!
🔧 POLISHING PADS EXPLAINED: WHICH ONE SHOULD YOU USE?
Not every polishing pad is designed to remove the same paint defects. Choosing the right pad is just as important as choosing the right polishing compound. 🎯
Here’s a quick guide to the most common types used in automotive detailing:
🐑 WOOL PAD — High cutting power for heavy defects and sanding marks when paired with a suitable compound.
🟠 COARSE FOAM PAD — Aggressive correction for deeper swirls, oxidation, and more severe paint defects.
🟡 MEDIUM FOAM PAD — Ideal for moderate defects, swirl removal, and one-step polishing.
🟢 FINE FOAM PAD — Refines the finish, removes light swirls, and improves paint clarity.
🔵 ULTRA-FINE FOAM PAD — Perfect for final finishing, refining gloss, and reducing micro-marring.
⚫ SOFT FINISHING PAD — Helps achieve a deep, high-gloss finish and remove light holograms when paired with the appropriate finishing polish.
💡 PRO TIP: Always assess the paint condition before choosing your pad. The result depends on the combination of pad, compound, polishing machine, paint hardness, and technique.
Start with the least aggressive combination that can achieve the desired result. Test a small area first, then increase the cutting power only if necessary.
