New York isn’t banning mobile detailing, but some of these sh*tty businesses should definitely be nervous.

The problem is not mobile detailing, it is unlicensed, uninsured people with no process, no standards, and no accountability calling themselves a business because they bought a pressure washer and made a logo. Professional mobile detailing in New York is legitimate when the detailer respects the customer’s property, understands chemicals, protects the vehicle, and knows where the water is going. If you are hiring the cheapest guy who can come tomorrow, do not be shocked when damage happens and “my bad” is the only policy they have.

Tesla owners are some of the most difficult people to deal with and they all act the same.

Tesla detailing is a different kind of headache because so many owners treat the car like it’s maintenance-free just because it’s electric. The paint still swirls, the interior still collects fingerprints, the glass still smudges, and if you actually care about keeping your Tesla clean, protected, and looking new, you need proper interior detailing, exterior detailing, paint correction, and ceramic coating — not a cheap wipe-down and a complaint about the price.

A lot of popular car detailing brands are better at marketing than actual performance, especially when you compare them against what professional detailers use for serious paint correction, exterior detailing, interior detailing, and long-term protection. At the end of the day, it’s not just about Chemical Guys, Adams, P&S, Meguiar’s, or Turtle Wax — it’s about using the right detailing products the right way, because most people don’t have the experience to get professional results from them anyway.

Seeing a luxury car go through a car wash tells me the owner doesn’t understand what they bought.

Luxury car detailing isn’t optional when you’re trying to protect expensive paint, preserve value, and avoid the damage caused by automatic car washes. If you’re investing in a high-end vehicle, you should be maintaining it with proper exterior detailing, paint protection, ceramic coating, and full details before and after winter instead of treating it like something disposable.

I turn down clients all the time—and it’s usually because of how they think, not what they drive.

Professional car detailing only works when the client understands the value of quality, time, and realistic expectations. If someone wants high-end interior detailing, paint correction, ceramic coating, or a full car detail but approaches it like a cheap volume service, they usually disqualify themselves before the job ever starts.
