This past GT4 America weekend at COTA has been really hard to put into words. First, thank you to our amazing crew. Not a foot put wrong all weekend transitioning to the 3-hour race format. The 51 car spent the least amount of time on pit lane out of all the competitors and every lap of the race in the top 3. Every stop was perfect.
We had two of the fastest cars in the field all weekend that were on their way to top place finishes.
Unfortunately, the 19 car was taken out of the race by a competitor towards the end of the opening stint. The guys got the car back out on the track, but suffered a puncture on the lap coming to green, and we decided to retire the car and prepare for Sebring.
The 51 car fought for the lead the entire race. Starting on the outside of the front row from a great lap by Francis. We battled with the top 3 throughout the entire 3 hours. Going opposite laps on strategy, helping to gain track position.
Unfortunately, when a door opened late in the race with a pass for the lead, it was quickly closed, and contact was made with the 028. The stewards, post-race, deemed this to be the fault of the 51, and we were handed a hefty 41 second time penalty. This moved the 028 to the lead and the 51 to 5th in class. It’s a call we don’t agree with and are trying to stand up against, but ultimately, we may have to take it and move on to Sebring.
