Not every shotā€™s textbook, but when the moment hits, you make it count. Less than perfect gaff placement, sure, but we adapted, landed it, and the rush was unreal. Thatā€™s fishing. Chaos. Quick calls. Heart. Iā€™ve got three openings this week, Wednesday the 26th, Thursday the 27th, Friday the 28th. Forecast looks decent, but always weather dependent. Lock it in while the windowā€™s there.

At this point, I think we need to officially rename the brown shark the new Long Island Sound striped bass. šŸ˜‚

We went out today and hooked FIVE of them within the first hour. Five. In one hour.

Itā€™s funny until you realize how crazy that actually is.

These sharks have become an almost constant presence in the Sound. Weā€™re seeing them shallow, seeing fins cruising around the boat, watching them chase plugs and live bait, and hooking them while weā€™re actively trying to target striped bass.

A few years ago, hooking a brown shark was something worth talking about. Now there are days where it feels harder not to hook one.

We can joke about them being the new striped bass, but the numbers weā€™re seeing firsthand are getting pretty wild. When you can hook five brown sharks in an hour without targeting sharks, it raises a legitimate question about what this growing population is doing to the rest of the fishery.

At this rate, we might have to start calling it the Long Island Shark Sound. šŸ˜‚šŸ¦ˆ

This is the kind of footage you almost never get to see.

We drop the GoPro down and catch the fish pinwheeling toward the surface. Then, out of nowhere, it turns and rockets off on another run, disappearing completely from the frame.

The camera comes back into the boat, and you donā€™t even need to see the fish anymore. The sound of the drag screaming tells the rest of the story.

Cruising past Montauk Lighthouse on our way out to the tuna grounds when a pod of dolphins decided to make an appearance.

The lighthouse behind us, dolphins cruising along the shoreline, and a full day of chasing bluefin ahead.

Not a bad way to start the morning.

Epic day on the water today! Both of these guys came out looking for their first ever bluefin tuna, and we were able to make it happen for both of them.

Nothing beats watching someone hook into a bluefin for the first time and realizing very quickly just how much power these fish have. We found the right marks, got the bites, and put two beautiful tuna on the deck.

These are the trips that make all the miles and long days worth it. Watching these two catch their first bluefin in the same trip is about as good as it gets.

We started the trip looking for fluke and sea bass, but the bite just wasnā€™t there like we hoped. We picked away at a few before switching gears after sunset and going on the hunt for stripers.

That move paid off. We managed to put a few nice bass in the boat and even had a surprise visitor with a 6 to 7 foot brown shark joining the action.

Not every trip goes exactly according to plan, but we kept moving, kept fishing, and ended up putting together a pretty damn good night. šŸŽ£šŸ¦ˆ

First person view from the Meta glasses. Jig gets hammered on the way down, bail snaps shut, Iā€™m cranking to catch up, then it lights out. Real screaming chaos. Raw and uncut with original audio. Hands shaking, Zachā€™s custom rod doubled over, UVT electric chicken doing work. This is the rush.
