π§ Tech Tip Tuesday π§
Service Information Matters
One of the biggest mistakes technicians make is assuming all service information is the same.
While aftermarket service information can be useful for general procedures, it often misses critical details needed to properly diagnose and repair modern BMW, MINI, Rolls-Royce, Volkswagen, and Audi vehicles.
Common items missing from aftermarket information include:
π Service Bulletins (SIBs/TSBs)
π₯οΈ Programming and coding requirements
βοΈ Adaptations, calibrations, and initializations
π§ Special tool requirements
π Guided diagnostic test plans
π Pinpoint wiring and connector information
β‘ System-specific diagnostic procedures
π Repair instructions and notes that affect the outcome of the repair
Before replacing parts or opening a tech support case, take the time to review the OE service information. Many answers can be found in service bulletins, repair procedures, and test plans that simply aren't available in aftermarket platforms.
The vehicle manufacturer wrote the procedures, designed the systems, and published the diagnostic process.
When it comes to modern vehicle diagnostics, OE service information isn't a luxury.
It's a requirement.
