Too much rain!!
Parts of Pennsylvania have been getting soaked lately, and some of these storms have turned serious in a hurry.
Heavy rain has caused flash flooding, flooded roads, high water and scattered closures in communities across western, central and eastern Pennsylvania. In some places, it only takes one strong downpour for water to start covering low-lying roads and filling creeks faster than people expect.
Pennsylvania flooding has become a repeated problem this summer, especially in areas that have already been hit by several rounds of rain.
The bigger issue is that the ground in many parts of PA is already saturated, so there is not much room left for another heavy storm. That means even a quick burst of rain can create flash flooding on Pennsylvania roads, near streams and in neighborhoods that normally handle summer storms without much trouble.
Anyone who has lived here long enough knows how fast it can happen. One minute the road looks fine, and twenty minutes later it looks like somebody moved the Susquehanna into the intersection. With more summer storms still possible, flooded roads and rapidly rising water remain something Pennsylvanians need to keep an eye on.
