We are deeply saddened to to hear about the passing of Rick Salem. He was the OG and founder of the United Rebel Sprint Series (URSS). Rick was well known in the sprint car industry. He gave his heart and sole to his racers, and a great friend to many. We will miss his one of a kind, infectious laugh. Rest in Peace, Rick. 🏁
It is with somber emotions that we must announce the passing of series founder, Rick Salem. Rick Salem was a former race car driver, promoter, series owner and family friend to all at the race track.
Many will tell you Rick was more than just a guy with a headset, most will tell you he was the right guy to wear the headset. Mostly taking chances on a whim, his biggest chance came late in 2005 with his good buddy Jon Johnson. An idea to create and establish competitive 305 racing in the Midwest. In 2006, that effort was made and the birth of the United Rebel Sprint Series was in full effect.
It didn’t take long for the series to take credibility. Offering regional drivers top paying purses and an affordable platform, Rick Salem took the URSS to the top across the nation.
In most recent adventures, Salem recently took on the Competition Director role for the High Plains Late Model Series and was looking forward to another year trying to grow the series.
Earlier this year, Salem was inducted to the Belleville High Bank’s Hall of Fame honoring his years as a driver and promoter.
Rick Salem will be remembered by many not only for his dedication and love for the sport, but mostly for his character and dedication for the drivers and fans.
We ask that you show the Salem family comfort and support through this difficult time of loss.
