One of the first things many experienced off-roaders do before leaving the pavement is air down their tires.

Why? Lower tire pressure allows the tire to flex more and creates a larger contact patch with the ground. That means better traction, a smoother ride over rough terrain, and more confidence when navigating dirt, rocks, sand, and gravel.

Just remember: airing down is only for the trail. Be sure to air your tires back up to the proper pressure before driving on the road.
