i’ve been busy wrapping up all my long term projects but figured i’d share my e28 digital dash prototype. this UI will also apply for e30s but with a different layout. i’ve already put a few miles on it and canbus is working as it should. more to come down the road 🙂

Holy Grail Labs e21 fusebox upgrade. this gets rid of the unreliable and somewhat expensive ceramic fuses for modern blade style. these older style fuses are famous for warming up and melting the fusebox before the fuse itself blows, another issue is with the clips themselves that tend to break at the base. you can see in the second picture where a repair was made.

this is v2 which also replaces the relays for a completely reliable solution to this problem. you also get the added bonus of fault lights that can tell you if you have a blown fuse at the flip of a switch.

if your e21 fuse panel is starting to fail or you have weird electrical issues, consider this kit.

photo dump of the 964 ac install. an upgraded 175A alternator is also crucial to this set up as the factory unit doesn’t produce enough amps, especially during idle to get the most cooling out of system as it is electric.

the real time consuming and only challenging part of this project was making everything fit due to the lack of space from the backdate conversion. a good bit of time went into planning, fitting, removing and lots of swearing. there was also a bracket made to better fit the condenser; or maybe i just wanted to make a shiny bracket with some holes in it. not entirely sure so i’ll sort that out in therapy but it looks proper.

very satisfied with the outcome and now she’s ready for these disrespectful florida summers.

a/c installation has begun for the 964, installing a kit. lovely kit by the way.

since this is a backdate, it’s presented some unique challenges mostly due to the front bumper cover arrangement. both the compressor and condenser have to coexist in this space, which is tight to begin with and the bumper cover took a bit of that room away. lots of test fitting, measuring, and wood was involved to find a placement that would work enough clearance at full lock. now to make a bracket for the condenser number 1 (the kit includes 2, second is sandwiched in front of oil cooler) then i can remove the fan cassette to install the upgraded evap.

if you own an xc90 or any modern volvo, ignore the “lifetime” transmission fluid and get it done at least every 60k or sooner if you’re towing. this car had only 71k miles on it

If you have an e9x, you’ve probably gotten the recall letter concerning the blower motor connector. if you haven’t gotten this fixed, we recommend you do so ASAP as the wires will touch, spark and can ultimately start a fire well before the 40amp fuse blows.
