“They LOWBALLED me on my trade!”
Maybe.
But before you assume the dealership is trying to steal your car, there may be more happening behind that trade-in offer than you realize.
After 20+ years in the automotive business, I can tell you that trade-in value isn't determined by one online estimate—or by what you still owe on the vehicle.
Dealers typically have to consider things like:
✓ Current market demand
✓ Recent sales of comparable vehicles
✓ Mileage and model year
✓ Vehicle history
✓ Tires, brakes and overall condition
✓ Mechanical or cosmetic repairs
✓ Reconditioning and detailing
✓ How easily the vehicle can be resold
Here's the part many people miss:
RETAIL VALUE and TRADE-IN VALUE are two different numbers.
A dealer can't normally pay retail for your trade and then turn around and sell it for retail. There are costs—and risk—in between.
But that doesn't mean you should walk into the dealership unprepared and simply accept whatever you're offered.
Quite the opposite.
The more you understand about your trade, the better prepared you are to evaluate the offer and negotiate intelligently.
That's exactly why I created my Trade-In Playbook.
I take what I've learned from more than two decades on the dealership side of the desk and show you how the trade-in process actually works—including what affects your value, how to prepare your vehicle, common mistakes to avoid, and how to approach the negotiation.
Thinking about trading your vehicle soon?
Comment “TRADE” below and I'll send you the information on my Trade-In Playbook.
Don't walk into your next dealership wondering what your trade is worth.
Know the process. Understand the numbers. Negotiate from knowledge.
