There's a line in the movie "Unforgiven" that pop's in my mind every Mermorial Day and it's this-
"It's a hell of a thing to killing a man. You take away everything he's got, and all he's ever gonna have.
It may be a strange thing to think about Clint Eastwood's lines in a movie, but when I hear someone say, " they gave their live for their country," I can't help but reflect on what that really means. The obvious is they gave up their physical being... their breath, their heartbeat, their "life." But then there's that, " all he's ever gonna have."
I'm 50 years old. I have a beautiful, healthy family, a home, a career that I chose, a dream that I chase, a life that I live.... When I think about all I have today, of all days, I have to think about and remember that these are the things that the men and women of our armed forces risk, and sacrifice every day. What they gave up for us reaches scores of years and generations beyond what we can even comprehend, to the children they might have had, or the good they could have done, to the lives they might have changed.... they gave up all that, so we could pursue our own American Dream, and have the opportunity to do all the things they never will.
Have a safe, happy Mermorial Day!!!
