Extortion 17 underway! No better weekend to start it.

On August 6, 2011, the world lost 38 extraordinary souls in the single deadliest incident of the war in Afghanistan—the downing of Extortion 17. Among them were 30 American service members—including 17 U.S. Navy SEALs from the elite DEVGRU, alongside dedicated Army Aviators, Air Force special operators, and a courageous K9—as well as seven Afghan National Army soldiers and an Afghan interpreter. These men did not just wear a uniform; they embodied the absolute pinnacle of bravery, selflessness, and elite warrior ethos, rushing into the dark of night toward danger so that others might live in peace. To honor Extortion 17 is to remember not just the catastrophic finality of that crash in the Wardak province, but the vibrant, fierce lives they lived and the crushing void left in the hearts of their families. They were husbands, fathers, brothers, and sons who gave everything for the brotherhood next to them and the nation behind them. Their names are forever etched into the bedrock of freedom, and their legacy remains an unyielding beacon of ultimate sacrifice: **"Never Forgotten, Forever Revered."**

Vigilance Over the Lakeshore
When the summer heat rolls into West Michigan, the elite men and women of U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Detroit leave their home base at Selfridge to stand watch over the bustling waters of Muskegon. Operating from their seasonal Air Facility at Muskegon County Airport, these highly trained crews—pilots, flight mechanics, and intrepid rescue swimmers—provide a life-saving shield for Lake Michigan’s heavy recreational traffic. The distinct, high-pitched whine of the MH-65 Dolphin often pierces the air directly over the Bryan Snuffer Fine Art Studio, its bright orange silhouette cutting a dramatic, high-contrast profile against the Michigan sky as it banks toward the water. To those on the ground, the sight of the helicopter thundering low over the trees on final approach is a constant, reassuring symbol of safety and vigilance. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, these "Detroit" crews remain on a hair-trigger 24-hour alert, ready to execute the daring search and rescue missions that keep the Great Lakes' shoreline secure and its boaters protected.

Bring the intensity of special operations aviation into your home with this stunning tribute to the "Night Stalkers."

A new high-octane window into the world of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR). Captured in dramatic detail, this piece depicts the iconic MH-6 Little Bird—the "Killer Egg"—in a moment of tactical perfection. You can almost feel the rotor wash and hear the hum of the turbines as elite operators prepare to transition from the air to the objective. Bryan David Snuffer’s painting, "Morning Stroll," masterfully captures the sleek, powerful silhouette of the MH-65 Dolphin as it glides over the deep gradients of Lake Michigan. The artist’s use of expressive brushwork and dramatic lighting brings a visceral energy to the scene, transforming a routine flight into a moment of soaring grace. For the community in Muskegon, this sight is a welcome herald of the season; every year, the return of the Dolphins from Air Station Detroit to their seasonal facility at the Muskegon County Airport marks a significant shift in the local landscape. Their presence provides more than just a striking visual against the horizon—it offers a profound sense of security for the thousands of boaters and residents who call the West Michigan shoreline home. We deeply appreciate the dedication of the crews who maintain a 24-hour watch, ensuring that even during the busiest summer months, the guardians of the Great Lakes are always within reach.
