The 2026 RAM 1500 BackCountry is a solid platform, but to us, it’s a blank canvas.

If you're looking to turn one into a serious dirt machine, here is the Sexton blueprint:

• Carli Suspension: To overhaul ride quality and handling.
• Yukon Gear & Axle: For the torque and reliability required on the trail.
• Mickey Thompson Tires: For maximum traction across Utah’s varied terrain.

With over 30 years of experience building Broncos and 4x4s, we know how to get these rigs dialed. Visit our SLC or Park City locations to get your build started.

That mystery clunk under your Bronco isn't always trail damage. Knowing the difference between a loose skid plate and a factory transfer case defect can save your drivetrain.

Trail noise usually sounds like:
- Sharp metal-on-metal pops during suspension flex.
- Rattling from loose bolts or captured rocks in the skids.
- Thumps from bottoming out on the bump stops.

Factory recall symptoms (Transfer Case):
- Heavy mechanical grinding during shifts.
- Persistent knocking only when engaged in 4-Hi or 4-Lo.
- Difficulty disengaging 4WD.

Crawl under and torque your suspension bolts first. If everything is tight and the noise stays internal, check your VIN for the latest TSBs or recall notices. We’ve seen a handful of these 6G Broncos come through our Utah shops with both issues. Don’t ignore the sound: diagnose it before it leaves you stranded on the rocks.

Moab summer doesn't play. Before you hit the red rocks in 100-degree heat, run through these 5 hidden failure points we see in the shop.

1. Fan Clutch & Shroud: If your fan isn't pulling air at low speeds, you're toast. Check the clutch for fluid leaks or lack of resistance when the engine is warm.
2. Gear Oil: Hard crawls in high temps cook your oil fast. Check for a burnt smell or heavy discoloration before the trip: high heat breaks down viscosity.
3. Battery Health: Heat kills batteries faster than the cold. Clean your terminals and load test your battery if it’s over three years old; high temps increase internal resistance.
4. Steering Bushings: Dry desert heat makes old rubber brittle. Inspect track bar and control arm bushings for cracks or play that lead to death wobble on the highway home.
5. Transmission Temps: Slow trails with no airflow are trans killers. If you aren't running an auxiliary cooler, now is the time to install one before you’re stuck in limp mode.

Don't find out the hard way at the top of Hell's Revenge. Swing by the Salt Lake or Park City shop if you need a pro eyes on your rig before you head south.

If you’re moving up to 37s or 40s, you aren’t just adding ground clearance: you’re adding massive rotating mass and leverage against your factory braking system.

It’s simple physics. Larger tires act like a longer lever on your axles, making it significantly harder for stock calipers and rotors to slow you down. On steep Utah descents or crawling down technical ledges in Moab, that extra weight turns into momentum that stock brakes weren't designed to handle.

Heat soak and brake fade are real risks when you're running heavy rubber on factory hardware. Upgrading to a Big Brake Kit increases your clamping force and heat dissipation. For older rigs or heavy builds, a Hydroboost conversion can provide the line pressure needed to bring those 40s to a dead stop with confidence.

Don't build a rig that can go anywhere but can't stop when it counts. We’ve been dialing in 4x4 systems for over 30 years at our Salt Lake City and Park City shops. If you're planning a big tire upgrade, let’s talk about your stopping power.

Factory 'trail-ready' rigs like the GMC AT4X, Ram BackCountry, and Ford Tremor are incredible starting points! 🛻💨 We love seeing these trucks coming off the line with so much capability right out of the gate. But when you’re hitting the unique terrain of the Utah backcountry, there’s always room to dial things in specifically for the environment. 🏔️💪

At Sexton Offroad, we take those solid foundations and tune them for the trails we call home. Whether it’s optimizing your suspension with ICON or Carli, or getting the right grip with Mickey Thompson tires, we’re all about taking a great platform and making it legendary for the red rocks and high-desert washes. 🛠️✨

With over 30 years of experience, our team knows exactly how to fine-tune your rig for maximum performance and confidence. Stop by our Salt Lake City or Park City shops and let’s talk about taking your factory build to the next level. 📍🔥

If your lifted Toyota feels twitchy on the highway, your caster is likely the culprit. Lifting a Tacoma or 4Runner alters the factory steering geometry, often leaving you with a wandering feel that is exhausting on long drives.

We solve this using SPC adjustable Upper Control Arms or, for the ultimate setup, Icon Billet UCAs. These aren't just for looks: they are engineered to restore proper caster and provide the clearance needed for larger tires and high-end shocks.

• SPC arms offer the adjustability needed for a perfect alignment.
• Icon Billet arms bring unmatched strength and precision to your front end.
• Both restore steering stability and eliminate that highway wander.

Stop fighting the wheel. Get your geometry right at our Salt Lake City or Park City locations. 🛠️

The 40-inch club looks good on paper, but the mechanical reality is a different beast. Putting 40s on a modern Bronco isn't just about clearance; it’s about survival.

Stock components aren't built for that much rotating mass. If you’re serious about reliability on the trail, you need:
- Chromoly axle shafts to prevent snaps under load
- Precision re-gearing to get your power back
- Beefier steering components to handle the extra leverage

We’ve been building Broncos for over 30 years. We know exactly where the breaking points are and how to reinforce them. If you’re ready to step up, do it once and do it right.

That 'Moab squeak' isn’t just character: it’s a warning. After a week of crawling over red rocks, your rig needs more than just a car wash. Sand and stress find their way into everything.

Run through this quick post-trail check before your next outing:

• Torque check all suspension and chassis bolts.
• Inspect steering joints and tie rod ends for play.
• Wipe down shock shafts and check for seal leaks.
• Crack the diff plugs and look for water or debris in the gear oil.

Don’t let a loose $10 bolt turn into a $1,000 recovery bill on your next trip.

What’s the weirdest noise or 'trail damage' you’ve discovered after getting back to the shop?
