3.5 ECOBOOST CAM PHASER REPAIR — COVERED UNDER WARRANTY!

This Ford F-150 came back to us with the familiar rattle on startup. We had replaced the cam phasers about a year ago for the same issue, and unfortunately, one of the replacement phasers failed.

The good news for our customer: the parts were still under warranty, so they weren’t out the cost of the repair again. 👍

As you can see from the pictures, replacing cam phasers on a 3.5L EcoBoost is no small job. The front of the engine has to come apart to access the timing chains, guides, tensioners and phasers.

FORD E-350 A/C REPAIR — BACK TO BLOWING COLD! ❄️

This Ford E-350 came into BB’s Auto/Diesel Repair with an A/C failure. We found the compressor had locked up and generated enough heat to melt the compressor clutch.

When an A/C compressor fails this badly, simply replacing the compressor isn’t the way we like to handle it. We installed a complete A/C kit to properly repair the system and help protect the new compressor from another failure.

Broken Exhaust Manifold Bolts? We’ve Got You Covered!

This GMC Sierra 1500 came into BB’s Auto/Diesel Repair with broken exhaust manifold bolts — a common problem that can cause an annoying exhaust tick, especially on a cold start.

We removed the exhaust manifold, extracted the broken bolts from the cylinder head, and replaced the damaged hardware to get the manifold sealed back up properly. 💪

Broken bolts can be a headache, but they don’t automatically mean the cylinder head has to come off. We have the tools and experience to get them out and make the repair the right way.

6.7L POWER STROKE — MORE THAN JUST A HEAD GASKET JOB! 🔧

This Ford Super Duty came into BB’s Auto/Diesel Repair with a blown head gasket. Once we got it torn down and sent the cylinder heads to the machine shop, inspection revealed both heads were cracked.

Instead of just getting it back together, we took care of several major upgrades and repairs while it was apart:

🔹 Brand-new cylinder heads
🔹 Head studs for increased clamping force and long-term reliability
🔹 New head gaskets
🔹 S&S Diesel DCR high-pressure fuel pump conversion — replacing the factory CP4 with a much more dependable design and eliminating one of the biggest potential failure points on the 6.7 Power Stroke
🔹 New cab mounts to replace the deteriorated factory mounts and tighten the truck back up

🔧 HEMI TICK? IT MIGHT NOT BE INSIDE THE ENGINE! 🔧

This Ram 1500 came into BB’s Auto/Diesel Repair with the infamous ticking noise coming from the engine bay.

After checking it out, we found multiple broken exhaust manifold bolts, allowing the manifold to leak at the cylinder head.

🔥 Why does this happen?
Repeated heating and cooling causes the exhaust manifold to expand and contract. Over time, this can warp the manifold and put enough stress on the bolts to snap them off in the cylinder head.

A leaking manifold can cause:
• A ticking or tapping noise, especially on a cold start
• Exhaust fumes or smell under the hood
• Soot around the manifold
• A leak that progressively gets worse
• Additional broken bolts if ignored

As you can see in the pictures, getting to the problem is only half the battle—broken bolts have to be carefully removed from the cylinder head without damaging the threads.

If your Ram, Jeep, Dodge, or other HEMI-powered vehicle has developed a tick, don’t automatically assume it’s lifters. Let us properly diagnose it first.

🛠️ 2024 Land Rover Defender — Coolant Leak Repair

Even a nearly new vehicle can develop a problem that takes some digging to find!

This 2024 Land Rover Defender came into BB’s Auto/Diesel Repair with a coolant leak. After diagnosing the cooling system, we traced the leak to a coolant return pipe located underneath one of the turbochargers.

As you can see from the pictures, getting to it isn’t exactly a five-minute job. With the components removed for access, we were able to replace the leaking pipe, install new seals, and get the cooling system sealed back up properly.

🔧 Infiniti Q50 — When Basic Testing Doesn’t Tell the Whole Story

This Infiniti Q50 came into BB’s Auto/Diesel Repair with a cylinder #1 misfire and heavy smoking.

Our initial relative compression test looked good and didn’t show a significant problem between cylinders. Instead of throwing parts at it, we took the diagnosis further with a running compression test — and that’s where the problem showed itself.

🔍 What we found:

• Burnt valves on cylinder #1, causing the misfire
• One turbocharger completely locked up
• The other turbo’s wastegate has excessive play
• Both turbochargers need replacement

With the engine out and torn down, we’re repairing the cylinder head issue and installing both new OEM turbochargers so this Q50 is repaired correctly instead of fixing one problem and sending it back out with another waiting to fail.

This is also a great example of why relative compression isn’t always the final answer. Sometimes a cylinder can look acceptable on a relative test while a running compression test reveals a valve sealing problem that would otherwise be easy to miss.

Electrical Problems Aren’t Always What They Seem! ⚡

This Ford Focus came into BB’s Auto/Diesel Repair with an electrical issue that took some real diagnostics to track down.

After testing the circuits, we found multiple broken wires inside the trunk wiring harness. The damaged wiring was causing voltage to backfeed into the ground circuits, which meant components throughout the trunk were showing voltage where there should have been a clean ground.

🔧 The problem: Broken wires in the trunk harness
⚡ The result: Voltage feeding into multiple ground circuits
🔍 The fix: Locate the damaged section, repair the wiring properly, and restore the ground circuits

Electrical problems like this are exactly why proper testing matters. Throwing parts at it wouldn’t have fixed this Focus—the problem was hidden inside the wiring harness.
