HE SENT ME FREE/I SAW THE LIGHT - MUSIC WITH A MESSAGE
This song isn’t just talking about prison bars—it’s talking about the prisons we carry inside. Some people are chained by addiction. Some by anger, fear, guilt, bitterness, or shame. The chains may look different, but only Jesus has the power to break them.
I know that because I’ve lived it.
There was a time when my life was headed in the wrong direction. I was trying to fill an emptiness with the things of this world, and none of them brought lasting peace. But then Jesus stepped into my life. He didn’t just forgive my sins—He changed my heart. He broke chains I couldn’t break myself and gave me a brand-new purpose. And even when I later walked through one of the darkest valleys of my life, when doctors didn’t think I would survive, the same Jesus who set me free from sin carried me through that valley too. The God who saves is also the God who sustains.
That’s why this song means so much to me when it says, “He set me free. He broke the bonds of prison for me.” Those aren’t just lyrics—they’re my testimony.
Jesus said in John 8:36 (NKJV), “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” And 2 Corinthians 5:17 reminds us, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
The song also gives us a loving warning: Jesus is coming again. None of us knows when that day will be. That’s why 2 Corinthians 6:2 says, “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.”
If Jesus could set me free, He can set you free too. No chain is too strong, no past is too dark, and no life is too far gone. Praise the Lord—He set me free, and He is still setting people free today.
