Prepping an RWB for Nakai is a very different experience from a normal build.

Usually, when a car comes in for new parts, we trial fit everything before moving forward because you never know if it’s going to line up perfectly. A gap here, a body line there… little things matter.

But this situation is completely different.

After sending Nakai photos of this RWB, we explained that we felt the fitment and gaps looked wrong.

And his response honestly shocked us.

He said the fitment was exactly how he likes it.

He would rather come and shape the car himself to create that signature RWB look by hand.

So now we’re in this weird position where every instinct is telling us to “fix” it… while also knowing that this is part of the process.

Would you be comfortable trial fitting parts knowing they aren’t supposed to fit perfectly yet?

Part 2 of the 997 desert build.

Once we got the car torn down, the front nose told the story pretty quickly. Years of road rash, chips, and wear that would’ve come right back if we just sanded it and painted over it.

So we stripped those areas to bare metal and started building the foundation correctly. High-build primer, corrosion protection, and a uniform surface for the paint to actually sit on properly later.

At this stage, the car starts looking a little chaotic. Everything gets taped off, openings sealed, parts organized, and the rest of the prep work begins before it heads into the booth. Some pieces intentionally stay on the car until the last minute too, just to keep everything safe and manageable while we work through the process.

Part 3 is where color finally starts going down.

Akira Nakai changed car culture by doing something most people were afraid to do: building exactly what he wanted, even when people hated it.

That’s what made RWB become what it is today.

This Thursday isn’t just about watching a Porsche get built. It’s about watching one of the most influential figures in modern car culture work in person and seeing the process that created an entire movement around the world.

Whether you love RWB or not, moments like this are rare.

See you Thursday.

On May 28th from 5PM–10PM, we’re opening the doors for a public ticketed viewing of our Fjord Green Porsche 964 RWB build as Akira Nakai returns to J&B for another live build experience.

If you’ve never seen an RWB come together in person, this is more than just a car meet. It’s late nights, metal dust, cigarette smoke, hand-cut fenders, and one man shaping a vision in real time.

Public viewing tickets will be available soon.

Some Porsche people are probably going to hate this… which honestly makes it even better.

This owner wanted a Turbo wing on his 997 for years. Porsche never really made the exact version he had in his head, and instead of settling for a replica or forcing some random setup onto the car, he waited until he found the right piece.

Once it got here, the process started like any other proper paint job: sanding every inch inside and out so the paint has a surface to bite into, cleaning it thoroughly, dialing in the color match, then spraying it the right way so it actually looks like it belongs on the car.

What I like most about this project is that it wasn’t done for approval. He knew some people would call it non-OEM or a Frankenstein setup and he genuinely didn’t care. He built the car he wanted to walk out and look back at.

And honestly… I think it works.
