Recap from Anderson speedway 5/8 and Harris speedway 5/9

Friday night with the MustSee 410s in our back yard, and after the second night at Cordele GA was canceled we decided to zip over to Shelby NC for the 305 race!

Friday night:
Picked up well over a second from the first practice to qualifying.
Although it was an uphill battle with the 360 dirt car against a few of the best 410 wing pavement drivers in the country. Qualified 13th of 14 cars and started 7th in the first heat. Held our own and Finished 6th after a spin out.
Started 12th and finished 11th over the course of the 40 lap feature going green to checkered.
Had a blast running and hope to improve performance and equipment for our next chance to run on the pavement!

Saturday night,
Started pole of the heat and slid 2nd going into 1. Battled down the back stretch and made slight contact with the outside wall after entering on the top. We then fell to 3rd. Still made the re-draw and started pole of the feature.
Took the green and by lap 17 we were running steady 4th. We then blew a hole in the radiator hose and that took us out of the race. We believe we may have a head gasket starting to go and that may have been the cause of a slight decrease in proformance.

All in all it wasn’t a bad weekend by any means. We had a great time racing and that’s what it’s all about in the end. We have big plans for the next couple weekends. And we’ll have pictures and dates to release hopefully later tonight or tomorrow!

Recap of Carolina speedway with the USCS 360s:

Through the night from practice to the heat race, we spent most of our time trying to dial the car in to be as drivable and comfortable as possible. With a different engine setup, new compound Rear tires, and a huge increase in speed, we were focused on trying to create the best situation for the feature. And we were definitely getting there.

Started second for the heat race and fell to 4th.
One of our biggest issues was a fuel stumble on takeoff but we believe we had gotten that sorted for the main event.

We lined up 11th for the feature and while getting into turn 1 on the first lap, we became involved with 2 other cars jumping wheels. This unfortunately sent us to the wall and knocked the front axle loose.
This put a very quick and disappointing end to our evening. We had a lot of hope and promise for the results and with a strong running engine and just starting to get a handle on tires. We really felt like we were working with something.

Good news is, Dad missed the Mahem in the 305 car so he collected a couple spots on his final position. Thankful to have him there to at least complete a lap in a #75!

But back to the drawing board. The frame appears to have been tweaked in the accident and we may have to drop back and punt on the 360 operation. We have options, and we’ll definitely be back for more 360 racing this year. But we’ll see how that all works in with our other plans.
We’re very busy at the shop getting ready for the upcoming month of races. So everyone keep your eyes peeled for more announcements soon!

Thanks to all those who support us in good times or bad!

Recap of 4/18 at Friendship speedway, Elkin NC:

Unloaded with decent speed going through practice. Felt great in the car and spent time trying different lines in both ends to see what we may be working with on the new-to-us surface.
One of our main points of focus was figuring out what it would take to be fast while also avoiding the cowboy up crater halfway through turn 3.
The track was decently tacky but that wouldn’t last long with the drought we’re facing in the Carolina’s, and the sunshine beating on it all day.

We drew pole for the heat race and had a subpar start. Thankfully we got a mulligan with a caution and had a full restart. Fortunately we had a better jump the second time.
Finished second to the outside pole car and redrew outside pole ourselves for the feature.

By now the track was getting very dry and slick.
We took the green and lead going into turn one. Raced hard but lost the battle for the lead within the first lap or two and settled in second.
Unfortunately an error while trying to navigate the hole in three cost us another position. But held third and continued to work on getting better in 3/4. Around halfway we slowed for a caution and with a change In driving style and some more patience, we managed to start picking up speed through 3/4 an started gaining ground back. Not quick enough for a change in position but a noticeable difference in times and distance from the leaders.

We finished third and happy to have put it on the podium for the first time in a while.
There were some driver errors that cost us time and position through the night, and hopefully with some changes and continued drive to make corrections. We can continue this momentum and find success in the coming weeks as we go into the longest stretch of constant racing.

After everything was all said and done, Friendship speedway graciously allowed some of us to put on a Non-Wing exhibition race. Hopefully we were able to put on a show for the remaining fans and we’re excited to see what may come of it in the future!

It goes without saying, these past 3 top 5 finishes would not have been possible without the help of our amazing sponsors,

Sponsor appreciation post!

Very recently we had to give our good friends at HoneyBee Septic Tank Service a call to come pump out our shop septic tank.
They were quick to respond and get a time set up to come get us taken care of.

They came, took care of business, were very professional and had us set up to go again.

Not always do teams get to speak first hand about their sponsors product, but us here at Robert Tyler Racing couldn’t be happier and more blessed to have these fine people in our corner.

Whether you’re in need of Emergency service, looking for a pump out like us, or any other sceptic needs. Give our friends at Honey Bee Sceptic a call at 704-247-1145

Recap from Lancaster Speedway SC 4/4:

Unloaded at the Big paperclip half mile of the Carolina’s.
Long straightaways with tight but very banked corners. Speeds are incredible.

Missions going into practice: find the right gear ratio, give the engine enough fuel, and do everything to stay smooth and consistent.

Practice went well and we learned a lot. This is the first race track I can honestly say that I could feel the air pulling up on my helmet. Which is a pretty strange feeling to get used too while going down those long straightaways.
We’ve ran at other half miles like Volusia and Wythe. But nothing compared to the straightaway speed of this joint. The speed was truly amazing and we’re very thankful for our Vaseleniuck Engine Development 305 power-plant that kept us ripping all night!

We Drew 3rd for Heat two but the p2 position had to pull out and go to the tail so we started outside front row.
After a quick rain storm we lined up to go out on a wet juiced up heavy track. The green flag dropped and it was a drag race Into turn one. We took the lead and pulled out into some good clean air and ended up with the Heat race win!

We re-drew 3rd for the 25 lap feature.
Took the green and settled into 3rd for a couple laps. Tried a few different things in both corners but no one thing seemed to be the magic line.

Through the entirety of the race we gave up 2 spots to the outside before I jumped up to run the lip. Which was certainly the lane coming in and getting faster.
Looking back we could have moved up earlier, but on the bright side we did get there eventually and laid down the 3rd fastest lap of the race on the 23rd lap. So we were still coming on and getting faster.
We crossed the line in 5th which makes our last 3 races on the new car, 8th, 4th, and 5th along with a Heat win. Which all races we’ve learned so much. And really feel like we’re getting a few things figured out and making some good momentum for this year.

A huge shoutout to one of our amazing sponsors and supporters Doug Berry with Jasper-n-Friends for coming out to hang with us throughout the night. We always love having our racing family come out and experience the thrills of running sprints in the South East.

And of course we wouldn’t be doing half of what we’re planning for this year without the rest of our great partners,

Recap from Wythe raceway 9/13

We unloaded for the third time to race this race track and man we were excited!

In Hot laps everyone was way to tight to get through the tight corners and most of us had near misses with the wall coming out of turn 4. Unfortunately we lost a car to the guardrail before practice had ended, bringing us from 12 to 11 cars.

This place had very long straights and we all just carried so much speed into the corners that it was a battle to see who could figure out how to rotate and stay smooth.

In the heat we started 4th and finished 4th of 5. That started us in 7th for the main and we finished 6th. For the most part it was a very tricky but exciting track.

We still have 2-3 things to work out to be the best we can be. But we finished much better than we started! And Im grateful for all those who helped along the way.

Fueling through the night proved to be one of our biggest hurdles. Even though we were winding motors up and the air was very crisp and good, we still had a tendency to over fuel it and didn’t gain the temperature and performance needed.

It’s definitely a challenging track and we’re ready for another chance at! So hopefully Wythe Raceway has us back another time or two next season where we could have a shot at redemption!

This weekend landed us forward into 4th in points and with some good deeds here and there Well Doctor LLC HoneyBee Septic Tank ServicetAmerican Racer TireslWoodland Auto Display, Paso Robles, CaliforniarTearoff Apparel Vaseleniuck Engine DevelopmenttJasper-n-FriendseHank Thomas Performancecan Racer Tires
