Recap of Sumter speedway SC 7/11:

After 4 years of running wing 305s, we have finally parked the Tyler Family 75 in victory lane in our local and home series, the Carolina Sprint Tour.
And this one is incredibly special. Being this was the place it all started…

- October 22 2021, the day my family and I went to Fayetteville speedway to watch the season finally of the Carolina sprint tour.

-October 23 2021, the next day we went to check out a local car being sold complete and ended up buying it to start the long process of getting ready for the following season.

-February 12 2022, I turned my first laps in a sprint car, and really any kind of a race car up to that point. As a 21 year old coming fresh into the sport he’s lived in his entire life.

-April 23 2022, we unload into the pits at Sumter speedway for my very first Organized race with the Carolina sprint tour where by miraculous luck, we somehow squeaked out a 5th place finish and lit a fire that has yet to do anything but spread out of control! (Picture below of our first race and car. yellow with a white wing)

This has lead us to this past weekend:

After coming off a couple weeks of pavement we decided to run off Friday night to Carolina speedway and support the USCS 360s. Where we had the chance to used some quality track time to try out some different suspension concepts we had been tossing around for a while.
This resulted in finding some very good feeling in the car and both it, and myself were responding very well to changes.

We pulled in after running a couple laps in the main to keep the equipment fresh for our 305 race the next night at Sumter speedway.

We then jumped up the next morning and headed down highway 601 to the “toughest lil dirt track in the south”.
We then unloaded to a rain storm that soaked the facility and started us off to a very juiced up and wet surface.

We ripped around well in hot laps and felt like with a few changes to our revised suspension setup we could be very competitive.

For the Heat race we started in 4th and the top 3 get into the re-draw for the main so we needed to make up some ground. We took the green and maintained 4th. After a yellow and gaining a position we restarted in 3rd and made a bad lane choice going into 1 which allowed a competitor to gain the better line going into 3 and squashing our chances for a redraw spot.
After finishing in 4th we definitely had learned a lesson about what to expect getting into the corners on the wet surface we had for the evening.
By a stroke of luck we had learned that the 3rd place finisher was a new driver to the series and did not qualify for the redraw being this was his first race with our group, per IMCA rules.

We then watched as 5 other drivers pulled 2-6 pulls out of a bag leaving only the pole spot left for the ol blue and yellow 75.
So with a hope, a prayer, and a Brand New AmericanRacer left rear tire. We set out with confidence to lead the pack to green.

We came around under good speed and lit out well on the start, taking the lead going into turn 1.
With a battle down the backstretch the second position car made a move to the bottom for a pass but with superior momentum in the top groove we maintained the lead coming out of 4.
After that it was just about consistency.

Somewhere around the halfway point, the Right side wing mount ripped out of the front wing and laid down the center foil flat/ crooked to the car. Which made for a very tight race car getting into the corners. We adjusted the driving style to compensate and moved around and with lap traffic until the checkered flag fell.

We had won.

1,562 days after our first sprint car start, we finally parked it in victory lane with the Carolina Sprint Tour.
And there are no words to describe the feeling.

I know I say it a lot, but it can’t be said enough.
We are eternally grateful to everyone that’s led us to this point. Current sponsors, past sponsors, friends, family, and everyone in the middle. My amazing girlfriend Marisa, my mom and dad and all those in our corner.
Because of the generosity and support of so many, we have made leaps and bounds forward. So much so that even with the rising quality of our local series we’ve pushed past and shown what we can do when all the stars align. And we hope to continue forward and not let off the gas!

This has definitely been one of my longest recaps, but with all the major things our team has had going in recent times I just wanted to allow this to stand out as one of our biggest milestones.

Thanks to everyone involved and we can’t wait to get back at it next Sunday with our second race with the USAC silver crown car at Wi******er Indiana. It will be live on flo for anyone that can’t make it!

Recap of Langley speedway 7/4

We made the haul to the east coast for some 4th of July racing action and it’s no exaggeration that it was Hot!
With the actual temperature in the High 90s and the “feels like” in the high 100s, things were shaping up to be a test of shear fortitude.

As Marisa and I pulled into the infield pits we unloaded and set up for the days action. And along with some friends, we prepared to run one of our more unique races of the year!

Practice went decent and we made some changes to find alittle speed with the different chassis.
We pulled our pill for the heat race and it landed us starting 5th in our 7 car heat.
We took the green flag and right away I noticed a tight condition. With a mixture of adjustments not getting us were we had hoped to be we limped it too a same place finish in 5th.
This would be starting us 10th in the 14 car field.

We made some different adjustments, and prepared for a 25 lap show down and we had some distance to make back up.

And that’s when some good luck struck! We were given a mulligan on the bad heat race and 2 cars in our line couldn’t make the call. So that moved us up to starting 6th!
We took the green and jumped out to the second lane and started working. Jockied a couple spots back and 4th. And fought back to 5th before a crash took out a couple of the front runners.

We took the restart in 3rd and with 12-13 lap left to go and the two leaders battling hard for the lead I had decided to stay more reserved and save the tire for the last stretch. In hopes for a yellow, or the 5 to go signal if nothing else.
The 5 to go came first and with the leaders a half lap ahead, we turned it up too 11 and started ripping through the corners. Using up everything left in the RR! We closed the gap to a 3-4 car lengths but just didn’t get there quick enough!

We Live and we learn. And a true testament to American Racer Tires. As hard as we all were on RRs and as hot as it was, it’s truly amazing how well built and durable they continue to be!

Congratulations to the two gentlemen in front of me for a great battle. And thanks to Langley for being one of the few tracks in the south east to hold sprint car racing!

We finished up the night in 3rd and followed it up with some great times with great people!

Next up, we are planning on running Sumter speedway SC depending on weather and/ or with the USCS 360s at Carolina and Travelers Rest. Hopefully the weather takes a turn for the better!

And then we make our second USAC Silvercrown start of the year at the famous high banks of Wi******er Speedway, Sunday July 19th!

Recap of the Mount Pleasant NC 4th of July parade.

After returning home from our Midwest voyage we gathered up a couple of our hotrods to represent through the local parade. And to proudly display our local sponsors that help and allow us to go to these further out races.

This is the second year we’ve been able to go through the local parade and also the second year we’ve gotten a quick shower sometime during the long up hill run. Thankfully with some quick thinking I had retrieved the floor mats out of the truck to at least keep myself partially dry!

Nevertheless happy 250th Birthday America! We can’t wait to celebrate the 4th with a 25 lapper on the tar at Langley Speedway up in Virginia!

Everyone be careful and watch your fingers on this holiday weekend. And when in doubt, pack an extra umbrella!

Recap of Indy Raceway Park, Indianapolis 6/25

Our first Silvercrown race!
Starting with a fresh car, in a new class, on a new fast track, we were ready for a new challenge.

Fortunately we had time to practice the night before our race so we had a few laps around the place. But for the most part to just get comfortable.

Practice when well and we picked up more speed than during the practice day.
We snickered up and headed out for qualifying. (Somthing that I love doing but haven’t had much practice at) we qualified 20th out of 23 cars and they start straight up from qualifying.

After so many years pushing dad off in the Silvercrown cars and watching everyone pull away, it was time to pull out onto the surface myself. And test my self and equipment against some of the best in open wheel pavement racing.

We took the green and traded places with a fellow car several times. The massive fuel load to go a full 100 laps on a 5/8 mile track was certainly a factor in the opening half of the race. With the extra weight pushing you off into the corner it can definitely be tricky getting in to the turns.
But as cars fell out and we ultimately won the small battle I was apart of at the back of the pack,the cars thinned out. And the leaders came and went again.
By the end of the 100 we crossed the line in 16th. At one point we had been in 15th but a car had gotten by right before a yellow and had revived the “lucky dog” to run back around and land back on the lead lap.

First and foremost I’m unbelievably proud and thankful of everyone that came out to support and help our operation. I think with all things considered we had a very successful night even if we had wished for a better finish.
But in this level of competition and this series, longevity is the name of the game. And being there at the end sometimes means the most.

We will now recap and document everything we’ve learned from the weekend and start to gear up for our next Silvercrown outing, July 19th at Wi******er speedway!

Big news! We’ve been working on a little project with all of our spare time…

We are proud to announce our plans to debut our new USAC Silvercrown operation this upcoming Thursday for the Hoosier Hundred at Indianapolis Raceway Park!

With the help of many, we’ve been working diligently to gear up for the next 4 pavement silvercrown races. Which include stops at IRP, Wi******er, Toledo, and Iowa Motor Speedway! All of which will be broadcasted on Flo Racing.

A huge thanks to Malcom and the BCR Group for the powerplant and everything else they have contributed into this project!

We are very excited for this step in our teams growth and we welcome the new challenges. For those of you who may not know, the Silvercrown series typically runs much longer races. Which allows for more strategy and is a game of endurance along with speed.

This will be some of the first national-level racing our team has tackled and we’re absolutely thrilled to be taking all of our Amazing partners to show off on the big stage!

After growing up watching how successful my dad was in this series I’m beyond honor to have the opportunity to compete with this master class of teams and we hope to continue our momentum into this new venture! And we hope to once again find our way into victory lane! (We snuck into the winners circle many years ago after one of dads wins at IRP as seen in the throw back photo)

We could not have gotten to this stage in this project without all of our wonderful partners and we are as always so incredibly grateful to be surrounded by so many great people!

Recap from Dixieland NC 6/12
With the Virginia Sprint Series

After making the 5 1/2 hour haul out to the coast we unloaded into about the hottest temperatures of the season so far. About 98 degrees before the heat index, and with a storm brewing later in the evening we were in a hurry up offense for changes and had some quick turn around.

We threw a baseline/dry setup at the new track to start, being how dry the surface was. With the heat and wind there wasn’t much the facility could do. Which had us pretty comfortable through hotlaps.
Whether it’s wet and heavy, dry slick, rough or smooth! Makes no difference, we love variety!

For the heat we drew inside second row and within 4 laps we gap passed for the lead, brought home the heat race win and learned where our weak points remained.
Back to the pits and back to work correcting and setting up for the main. With the track being abrasive and slick, we could see a low grip situation right up until the possibility of a rubber groove.
So our star chief mechanic and setup wizard Brian Tyler through the magic tune on the chassis and with a lucky pill re-draw we set out to start outside pole.

We took the green and settled in second for the first third of the race. Spending each corner searching and working on being smooth. And before long we found speed. As the race went on and cautions came and went we found our opening and shot across the bottom to take the lead. And lead for the last 12-15 laps. And with a couple good takeoffs on some re-starts and alittle pressure from our fellow CST regular Ben Mccall, we maintained a lead and crossed the line in first. To win our first race. And just in time as the thunder cracked and lightning filled the skies!

We’ve worked incredibly hard for the last 4 years to gain this kind of momentum and we can’t be more appreciative for all those who’ve poured into our program. Through the highs and the lows. There’s a crowed of folks out there who had never gave up hope that we could score one. And for all of you, thank you. The amount of calls and texts we have received the last two days have been extraordinary.
This may not be the Super Bowl of racing and we didn’t win any kind of championship. But it’s a big deal to our team and we plan to continue with this momentum. So hopefully with more hard work and dedication, we can collect some hardware from our home series in the Carolina’s. Possibly beyond if the good lord is willing!
