Toyota KATA workshop

Toyota Kata is a methodology designed to confront Lean’s biggest challenge by changing the way we think, learn, and solve problems. This process enforces a structured, sustainable system for developing new habits that enable continuous improvement.

In this management approach a primary job of leaders and managers is to develop people so that desired results can be achieved. They do this by having the organization members (leaders and managers included) deliberately practice a routine, or kata, that develops and channels their creative abilities. Kata are patterns that are practiced so they become second nature and were originally movement sequences in martial arts.
We demonstrated this methodology using process of Dominos.

Supervisor Team Building! Each group received a different type of shoe, with the directive to teach management "How to tie a shoe." No additional directions or feedback were given, and they had to work as a group to present after 30 minutes. Our groups did a fantastic job and stepped up to the challenge! They made their own videos, diagrams, and written instructions.

Goals: Teamwork. Did they create a process? Was the process numbered? Was their clear understanding? Were there visual aides? Did anyone get creative with a video?

Lessons learned: Everyone does not learn the same way; Principles of Empathy, i.e., putting yourself in another person's shoes when communicating with others. The best lesson learned = Teamwork!!!

The IATF 16949 standard, in conjunction with ISO 9001, describes quality management system requirements for the automotive industry and is applicable to organizations where manufacturing of customer - specified production parts, service parts, and/or accessory parts occur. Certification to IATF 16949 demonstrates Concord Tool and Manufacturing’s commitment to continual improvement and customer satisfaction.
