I’m not sure many of you will remember the 04 Pro-XR I started on a couple years ago. While it’s not often I will sell a project before it’s completed, I knew my buddy Kyle would do it the right way. And that he did, so many NOS parts went into this build and there was a lot of logistics into getting this thing up to him in Alaska, including the NOS hood from New York. 😅 I don’t think I’ve ever invested this much time into another persons project but after seeing the final product, I can 100% say it was worth it all.

I had a pretty fun night of investigation yesterday trying to piece together a little more history on this thing. At this stage, all clues are pointing to this being the #288 sled of Ty Carson that was raced at the 02 X-games Hillcross. Does anyone have anymore photos from this event or know any photographers who covered it?

If you know me or have followed the page long enough, you probable know that I LOVE a good mock-up. Something about seeing the direction of a project long before completion really keeps me interested in keeping at it. Luckily I had some custom ZBROZ Racing shocks and the hood from the 99 XCR in the garage. 🤘🏼

I made some really good progress yesterday. I modified the cross-shafts to an M-10 I had been hanging onto. It’s most of the way there, but I will need to narrow the rear torque arm so I will have enough space for the upper idler wheels. Everything mocked into place really nicely even though the skid is sitting kind of funny due to there being no front shock. With any luck, I may be able to stuff a track under it this week. 🤞🏻

With the hillclimb season cut short. It’s awesome to see that the Rocky Mountain Vintage Snowmobile Association is still working hard to put on some kind of event!

A really interesting one came home with me yesterday. One that if I’m being honest, I really do not know much about. One of roughly 3-4 of its kind, built by Kirk Williamson. This chassis is full of cool features. Centered around a 13.5” wide track with a super narrow 14.25” wide tunnel. This thing feels like a dirt bike standing over it. The track itself is also something I’ve never seen before. 4 rows of traditional paddles followed by 2 rows of fingers in a series. Most of the photos I’ve been able to find of these chassis in competition were from the 2002-03 X games in which they had a custom A-arm front suspension. Looking at the under side of this chassis, sure enough. It still has all the pickup points present for A-arms. The spindles even still have pivots on both sides to accept the arms. Similar to the Cat style suspension of the day. The drivetrain is also a step away from the norm using an open motorcycle style chain and sprocket. The drivers themselves are a sub-unit mounted to billet bearing blocks that bolt into the main chassis structure. I can only imagine this makes swapping tracks a breeze. I’ve known about this sled for quite sometime and had not really considered taking on another full build. But after getting it home and washing the barn dust off of it. This will be more of a re-assembly rather than a restoration. But that being said. There will still be quite a bit of custom fabrication getting this thing back on the snow. Enjoy. 😎
