Liberty Style Remains Unbeaten in NYSS
The first division of New York Sire Stakes had 6 starters vying for $59,100. The action saw Existential making a break going to the first quarter as Liberty Style (J. Bartlett) took the lead from Savage Cindy (J. Stratton) passed the first split in 27.4. The field was single file to the half in 57.0. Down the back side Two Twenty Swift and Jim Taggart Jr. mounted a charge and briefly challenged the leaders, as the leader hit the next panel in 1:25.3. Turning for home Savage Cindy angled out off the rail taking aim at the leader but to no avail as Liberty Style was on hand in 1:53 - $2.22. Savage Cindy was second followed by Ideal Beauty Queen (B. Boyd) Liberty Style (American Ideal- Fly In Style) sports a perfect slate her third Sire Stake win on the year for trainer Andrew Stafford, continuing her dominance in her division.

The second heat was a short 5 horse field worth $58,000 with no Show Wagering. Surreal Spirit (PP4-J. Gregory) was sent off as the post time favorite, Odds On Monetary (M. Kakaley) from post 2 was first to the front and the first split of 27.4, with the gappy pack behind her, the pack was still gappy and stretched out at the next panel in 56.2. They tightened up a bit in the 3rd turn. Odds On Monetary still showing the way 1:25.1 turning for home Hunting Memories pulled the earplugs and challenged Odd On Monetary to no avail as she cruised to a 1:53.1-$4.20 score. Surreal Spirit never found his stride but still finished third. Odds On Monetary Huntsville – All On Top Hanover picked up her second Sire Stake win for trainer Travis Alexander

In Excelsior action, Bueckers (American Ideal – Finnish Your Way) with Jason Barlett in the bike picked up a new lifetime record after her easy 9 length score in 1:53.3 -$2.10 for trainer Andrew Staffard. Joe Pavia Jr, picked up a pair of winners with Grazia a filly by Huntsville – Ramalama extended her win streak to 5 in row, and notched her second Excelsior seasonal with Jason Barlett in the bike, Pavia Jr. also scored win Long Shore (American Ideal – Butchie Beach) in 1:55.1 - $2.40

Matt Kakeley and Jason Bartlett each had 2 winning Sire Stakes winning drives, Trainers Andrew Stafford & Joe Pavia Jr. had 2 Stakes winners on the 11-race card, Greg Merton drove 2 wins on the overnight card.

The afternoon’s card was 11 races that saw Lauren Tritton drive 3 winners from her barn, Precious Gemma1:57.4 -$2.38 - Lochinvar Matilda 1:54.2 -$2.14 and then the finale with Vivians Wish in 1:58.2 -$8.88, all 3 are trained by Shane Tritton. Jason Ricco had a pair of driving and training wins with Gardys Legacy in 1:57.2 -$12.90 and with the 1/9 favorite Zander in 1:57.2 -$2.26

We are all used to see Jim Taggarts name listed as a driver, but today we saw him as on owner of Barrywhite Hanover who scored for Taggart in his first start for him in 1:58 -$ 11.84.

Greg Merton reeled off 3 consecutive winners with favorites aboard Vinovio 1:56 - $4.48, Scootnroll 1:57 - $3.04 & Record Year in 1:57.4 -$2.20, Jennifer Petrelli had a pair of training wins, Jim Taggart Jr had a driving double.

Jim Taggart Jr. led all driver with a Grand Slam and a new Track Record on the 12 race card.
After putting together a 4 race win streak and moving up in class, in her last 2 starts she drew unfavorable post position, this week KJ Title started in the middle of the field from post 5 and went off the favorite. The 8 horse field in the $9,000 Open Trot saw Makin Magic Tonight (PP2) make the front and proceeded to cut the mile to the almost the half, 27.4. At the half KJ Title was under way and was first over at the half and tripped the beam at 57.4 and was still on the outside reaching the next panel in 1:25.3. From that point the El Titan mare began to skip away from the pack, on top by 3 at the top of the stretch and extended her winning lead to 6 length’s, scoring in 1:55.1, establishing a new track record for 4 year old Trotting mares, breaking an 11 year record held by Chelsea’s Chance in 2015 in 1:55.3. Prince Archie (T. Merton was second with Makin Magic Tonight (R. Silvestri III)

She’s Spicy (K Dibenedtto) now has a 3 race win streak after her 1:57.4 win for trainer Tammy Sowers. Where is Konga (J. Taggart Jr.) earned his second seasonal win in 1:59.1 for Vernon Downs trainer George Harrison. Carrera Hanover (B. Aldrich Jr.) got the win for Trainer Robert Lounsbury, Bob needs only 2 more wins for career win #2,000

After finishing 2 in consecutive conditioned races, this week Zeus Hanover was in the $9,000 Open Pace from post 2 and received a Luke warm welcome from the betting public, sent off at odds of 15-1. Lupa (PP5 – G. Merton) made the tops past the first quarter in 27.2 and remained on to the entire mile, splitting the tele timer in 56.4, 1:25.3. All the while Tom Merton gave the Lisa Martin trainee a perfect drive saving ground along the rail sitting third. Turning for home Merton steered Zeus to the passing lane with Lupa still on the lead, Zeus Hanover was able to hold off Lupa by a neck I 1:54.3 -$32.42. It was the son of Betting Time’s 1st win on the year.

Rock Diamonds (R. Cushing) made it 2 in a row for trainer Tammy Sowers. Tahuya Handsome (J. Taggart Jr.) enjoyed the drop in class from the Open and won in 1:55.1 --$7.40 for trainer Enio Barrera. Sugar Britches (G. Merton) extended her win streak to 3 after her 1:56.2 -$11.82 score for trainer Jennifer Petrelli. Trainer Paul Long had back to back winners Alchemy Bluechip 1:58.4 - $2.94 and New Kim In Town 2:01.1 - $3.44 (S. Keppler)

Jennifer Petrelli and Tammy Sowers are locked in a dead heat wins 86 wins each for leading trainer, Mike Merton has a strangle hold in his division with 165 winners, far out distancing his closest rival his brother Greg with 122 wins

Third place leading driver Jimmy Taggart Jr. led all drivers with a triple, Bruce Aldrich Jr. had a double.

It took a while but has summer finally arrived in the Catskills and is making up for lost time with some brutal temperatures. Today’s card had 11 races.

The featured race of the day was the $9,000 Open Trot with 7 starters, the betting public made #7 KJ Title the post time favorite. DC Anna made a break before the gate unfolded to severely hampering her chances. Going to the opening panel there was a give and go between Ackles Hanover (J. Devaux) and Makin Magic Tonight (R. Silvestri) Ackles Hanover was the first to trip the beam at 28, 57.3. Little Town Road and KJ Title came first over at the half to start the outer flow. Ackles Hanover was still showing the way at the next station at 1:26.3 but barely as the 14-1 Little Town Road had a full head of steam and gaining momentum rounding the paddock turn to easily clear the pack and started to draw off in the lane and won by 4 lengths in 1:56.2 - $30.58 for driver Kyle Dibenedetto and trainer Bryson Dunning. Memento Mori (M. Merton) was second followed by Prince Archie (T. Merton)

Greg Decker Jr’s Full Disclosure earned his second win on the year with his 1:55.1 - $10.20 score, Odds On Brexit (B. Aldrich Jr.) now has a 3 race wins streak for trainer Jim Doherty Jr. Tammy Sowers picked up a pair of training wins with She’s Spicy in 1:59.1 - $2.74 and Squeaky Clean in 1:57.2 - $9.78, both winner were driven by Kyle Dibenedetto, Sowers is now tied with the leading Jennifer Petrelli with 85 trips to the winners circle with the double she is now tied with the leader Jennifer Petrelli with 85 wins. Like the ever ready battery, Chip Chip Conway continues to grind on, today the 10 year old gelding notched career win # 55, third win of the year after his open length core in 1:58.1 -$5.86 for the winning connection of Jim Taggart Jr and Gary Messenger

Kyle Dibenedetto & Jim Taggart Jr. were both hot today with a driving triples, Greg Merton had a pair of wins as did trainer Scott Jensen.

Wagering has as hot at the temperatures today, the handle was $725,000 with a per race average of $65,900.

Racing has been cancelled for tomorrow due to the excessive heat out of caution for the horses and horsemen and women.

The hot afternoon’s card was a 9 race affair with the $9,000 Open Pace as the featured race of the day. The Open attracted a full field of 8 going to post, the out of town invader Invictus (PP6) came with strong credentials. Tahuya Handsome from the rail was the first to the top, briefly before Lupa (G. Merton) retook the lead briefly before Tahuya Handsome retook the lead at the first quarter in 27.3 and was on top at the half in 56.4. Vel Trust In Time was first over at the half. Going down the backside Tahuya Handsome was still showing the way, hitting the next station in 1:25.2. From the back of the pack Invictus mounted a strong 3 deep move in the paddock turn and began to draw off from the pack, winning handily in 1:54.1 with Mike Merton in the bike for trainer Rob Harmon. Rusty Beach (T. Merton) got up for second followed by KJ Hunter (J. Taggart Jr.)

Great Bet (G. Merton) picked up his ninth win on the year, it was his 5th win in 6 starts, 2 in a row for trainer Jennifer Petrelli. The 1/9 Australian import Checknoutthetalnt A (M. Merton) was impressive in his second start in the States, after his open length 1:53.4 score for trainer Rob Harmon, he is now 2 for 2.

Mike Merton led all drivers with a triple on the muggy afternoon, Mike Merton and Jim Taggart jr had a double, trainer Jennifer Petrelli also notched a triple, Ron Harmon had 2 wins
