Cotton Candy Cutie puled an upset in the $9,000 Open Trot, the second betting choice Ackles Hanover and Jimmy Devaux starting from post 4, thwarted the favorite Lous Lancelot from making top and was forced to tuck in the 2 hole in 28.2. Nearing the half 59.3 Cotton Candy Cutie, who was next to last, came first over and quickly made a lot of ground and remained parked. All the while the favorite Lous Lancelot (L. Tritton) enjoyed a perfect 2 hole journey. Turning for home Ackles Hanover began to tire and jumped it off, Lous Lancelot used the passing lane but Cotton Candy Cutie still had enough in the tank to get the win over the favorite in 1:58.1 - $22.54, Andover Contessa (M. Merton) was third. Cotton Candy Cutie is trained by Jennifer Petrelli.

Chip Chip Conway won in 1:58.3 -$8.96 for his best winning time in 2 years, KJ Title took the opener in 1:56.3 to earn a new speed badge, they were both trained by Gary Messenger and driven by Jim Taggart Jr. Perfect Cabernet (G. Merton) was a 9 length winner in 1:55.4 -$2.20 for trainer Shane Tritton.

The afternoons 9 race card was highlighted by the $9,000 Open Pace, Tahuya Handsome was scratched sick. Soho Skyfall A was installed the favorite at post time after his 1:53.1 score last week in this company, starting from post 6. He left strongly and made the front parked past the opening panel in 27.1. He continued on top via spilt of 57.1 & 1:25.4. Rusty Beach came first over coming to the half to begin tracking the leader. Coming of the last turn Rusty Beach (T. Merton) had a full head of steam taking aim on the leader, right alone side was Better Be Gouda (G. Merton) Almost last at the top of the stretch was 10-1 Vel Letsroll South and Bruce Aldrich J. who were forced very wide and was in the middle of the racetrack and, the pair uncorked a last quarter of 28.3 to get up for the win in 1:55.1-$20.88, Rusty Beach was second with GDS Thunder GB (C Poynton) finishing third. The winner is trained by Tammy Sowers.

Ralph Sivestri III continues to climb in the leading dash wining driver’s column, currently Silvestri is in ninth spot, after today’s triple, he is on the heels of Ron Cushing who is eighth with 35 wins. In recent weeks, Thursday seems to be Ralph Silvestri’s III best day of the week, he started off this Thursday with a with a 4 length win aboard Pacing Major N in 1:58.3 - $2.78 in the opener and then came back 3 races later to score with Rose Run Woodrow in 1:56.3-$ 2.84, both are trained by Al Annunziata. Silvestri would have had a driving triple but was set down after a Pylon infraction in the ninth race driving Sweet N Fast N.

Robert Ciavardini and Woodside Genius took the North American Amateur Driving Association Consolation in 1:59.1-$10.80. After 3 third place results, Miki De Vie (T. Merton) got the win today in 1:58.2 - $14.06 for trainer Keith Haase. Trainer Bob Lounsbury needs only 4 more wins for career win #2000 after scoring with Meltdown Monte 1:57.2 -$2.48

The $9,000Open Trot was held this afternoon, it was originally slated with a full field of 8, but Prince Archie and Barn Hall were both scratched sick. The wagering public installed #4 Andover Contessa the post time favorite, when the gate left she promptly went off stride. Makin Magic Tonight (Ralph Silvestri III) didn’t have to work too hard to make the top and set splits of 29.1, 59.3. Past the half Barn Credit and DC Anna were first over with Makin Magic Tonight still showing the way in 1:29.1, turning for home Ralph Silvestri III didn’t move a muscle taking the Open by 2 lengths in 1:58.4 - $7.70 over Ackles Hanover (J. Taggart Jr.) and Barn Credit (M. Merton) It was the winnerd fifth win on the year for trainer Jenna Cornelison. Silvestri has had good luck with Makin Magic Tonight, winning 2 of her 3 last starts

The biggest mile of the and best drive of the day came in race 9, the 2-5 favorite Scootnroll (G. Merton), after making a break going to the ¼ mile marker he was parked every step of the mile, Greg Merton displayed great skill in handling his mount and trying to keep him straight throughout the winning mile in 1:59.3 - $6.42 in a cavalry charge at the wire, the winner is trained by Monica Eriksen.

Merton) liked the inside post this week in the cards featured race the $9,000 Open Pace, the aged son of Sweet Lou put together 3 sub 28 second quarters and went wire to wire in a 3-length win in 1:53.1 - $6.60. Tahuya Handsome (J. Taggart Jr.) was second, with Lous The Attitude (T. Merton) getting up for the show spot. The winner is trained by Rob Harmon

Shane & Lauren Tritton showcased Precious Gemma who in her first lifetime start after a pair of qualifiers under her belt, the daughter of Sweet Low scored in 1:57.4 - $3.16 with Lauren Tritton in the bike. It wasn’t easy but Wicked Sport (J. Taggart Jr.) finally found the winner’s circle in a narrow win over Casino Chris in 2:00.3 for trainer Jenn Petrelli. Dropping out of the Open Class was much to KJ Hunter (J. Taggart Jr.) liking, his winning time today of 1:54.2 is his fastest win in over 2 years

In next week’s program, the lines for Tin Cup Chalice will show 7 consecutive wins, again this afternoon the strapping son of Huntsville scored well in hand for Mike Merton in 1:54.1 -$2.10 for trainer Jared Bako.

The 8 race cards featured races was the $9,000 Open for Fillies and Mares with a field of 6, the betting public made Jillian Jiggs (PP6) the odds on favorite. Both Razzin Jazz (G. Merton) and Jillian Jiggs vied for the early lead with Jillian making the top past the opening panel of 27.4. Scenic Adventure make a nasty break going to the quarter pole and took herself out of contention and interfered with Be My Rose N and Don’t Chip Me. Jillian Jiggs and Tom Merton continued to show the way with splits of 57.1, 1:26.3. Turning for home Jim Taggart Jr. aboard Be My Rose N ranged into contention on the outside as Razzin Jazz found room along the passing lane to get up for the win in 1:55.3 - $5.65. Jillian Jiggs was second followed by Lucky Lil Lady (R. Silvestri III) The wins continue to add up for trainer Greg Decker Jr. he is now the fourth leading trainer tied with Gary Messenger and Ken Koch win 23 trips to the winners circle after Razzin Jazzs win.

Vicky Everyday (G. Merton) is atop of the leading board for most wins on the year after securing her ninth seasonal win in a season best time of 1:54.4 for trainer Jennifer Petrelli. Princess Brisa (G. Merton) got her first seasonal win in 1:57.4 - $7.78 for trainer Rich Campolong. Sunny’s Rebel made it 2 in a row with Jason Ricco in the bike for trainer McKenzie Sowers in 1:59.2 - $2.96.

Driver Bryan Quevedo and Trainer Luis Guevara teamed up for a triple on the 10 race card, Quevedo would win another race giving him the Grand Slam, Greg Merton had a triple, Tammy Sowers nabbed a training double.

Reminder - Monticello Raceway will be dark in Monday May 25 for Memorial Day, we will be racing on Friday May 29 as a makeup day.

On Tuesday May 26, there will be a $2,470.25 carryover for the Pick 5 and a $10,000 Pick 5 Guarantee.

The cards featured race was the $9,000 Open Trot with 8 starters, the 3 mares in the race finished 1-2-3, the winner of last week’s Open DC Anna (B. Aldrich Jr.) used the same blueprint as last week and went out and wired the field in a 3 length victory in 1:57.3 - $2.74, Makin Magic Tonight (R. Silvestri II) was second, with Andover Contessa garnering the show position. DC Anna is trained and partially owned by driver Brue Aldrich Jr. – it was her sixth seasonal win

Also on tap were 2 splits of the NAADA series, each worth $8,500 Woodside Genius took the first heat in 1:59.1 - $18.74 with Joe Lee in the bike for trainer Gary Messenger. Tony Ciuffetelli reeled in My Secret Ability (J. Lee) at the wire to score aboard Reel Em In in 1:59.4, the winner is trained by Scott Jenson.

The rugged Cinnamon Stick - $4.42 (M. Merton) flashed early speed to get the win for trainer Laura Perino and longtime owner Michael Mulligan for his second win of the year. Majestic Kiwi N (R. Silvestri III) made it 2 in a row after his 1:57.4 - $6.24 for trainer Paul Blumenfeld.

Bob Lounsbury continues his march to career win #2000, with the win this afternoon with Meltdown Monte (J. Taggart Jr.) 1:56 - $3.66, he needs just 5 wins for the milestone.

Leading Driver Mike Merton reeled off the 3 consecutive winners late in the card, Jim Taggart Jr. nailed a double, and trainer Scott Jensen upped his UDRS with 2 training wins on the 11 race card.

This afternoon offered a pair of $9,000 Open Pace events. The first heat attracted a full field of eight, Rusty Beach and Tommy Merton from the rail had to work hard to make the front at the first quarter in 27.1and it didn’t get any easier, from the half 56.3 on he had to fight off the pesky Hurrikane Jonnyboy and Jim Taggart looming on the outside in 1:25. In the paddock turn, Betthebeach Yankee and Bruce Aldrich Jr. who had been sitting fourth along the rail was in high gear and Rusty Beach had to repel yet another contender, it took every inch of racetrack but Betthebeach Yankee got past the game Rusty Beach in the final strides in 1:55.1 - $13.88 Buy In (G. Merton) finished third, the winner is trained by Greg Decker Jr.

In the second Open, the Lisa Martin trained Feeling Western (R. Cushing) grabbed the early lead from Cyrus N and then played catch me if you can, scoring in 1:54.3 -$3.50

Jim Taggart Jr. took both end of the early Daily Double (3-1) with Great Bet 1:55.2 - $2.72 & KJ Becky 1:57 - $10.12. Tin Cup Chalice went wire to wire in 1:54.2 - $2.12 for Mike Merton and Jared Bako. Bad Boy Too (R. Cushing) scored a 4-length win in 1:55.3 - $31.54 for trainer McKenzie Sowers.

A Harness Racing oddity occurred this afternoon. We have all looked at programs where we see horses that are long shots by a mile and it looks like they have no chance, well Lil Red Rocknhood and Adam Moeykens and Cedric Washington proved them all wrong. Sent off at odds of 112-1, the six-year-old mare who was last at the half got underway down the backside and slowly and steadily advanced on the pack to get up on the outside over Bluebird Crush and Jim Taggart Jr. in 1:58.1. In the following race, the 34-1 Its Always Sumthin pulled another shocker from the 8 hole for Shane Taggart, returning $70.86 – 2:00.4 to his faithful.

Every week Jillian Jiggs and Just Rosas Luck battle it out, this week was no different, Jillian Jiggs started from post 6 and Just Rosas Luck from post 5 in the 6 horse Filly and Mares Open. The first quarter saw Just Rosas Luck take the lead from Jillian Jiggs past the opening panel of 27.2 and continued to set the temp with splits of 56.3, 1:25.2. Turning for home Tommy Merton aboard Jillian Jiggs was able to sneak up the rail to get the win in 1:54.4- $7.24, turning back Just Rosas Luck (M. Merton) and Razzin Jazz (G. Merton) Jillian Jiggs picked up her ninth seasonal win for trainer Tammy Sowers and upped her yearly earning to over $35,000 for owner Clifford Grundy.

Owner – Trainer – Driver Chuck Poynton steered Mike The Knife to his first seasonal win in 2:00.3 - $3.43, Greg Merton drove a pair of winner, Jenn Petrelli bagged a training triple.

Last Thursday, Ralph Silvestri III, had perhaps his best day in the sulky, reeling off 4 winners on the 12 race card. The 36 year old has cracked the top Ten for leading Dash Winning Drivers with 26 wins.
