Liberty Style Remains Unbeaten in NYSS
The first division of New York Sire Stakes had 6 starters vying for $59,100. The action saw Existential making a break going to the first quarter as Liberty Style (J. Bartlett) took the lead from Savage Cindy (J. Stratton) passed the first split in 27.4. The field was single file to the half in 57.0. Down the back side Two Twenty Swift and Jim Taggart Jr. mounted a charge and briefly challenged the leaders, as the leader hit the next panel in 1:25.3. Turning for home Savage Cindy angled out off the rail taking aim at the leader but to no avail as Liberty Style was on hand in 1:53 - $2.22. Savage Cindy was second followed by Ideal Beauty Queen (B. Boyd) Liberty Style (American Ideal- Fly In Style) sports a perfect slate her third Sire Stake win on the year for trainer Andrew Stafford, continuing her dominance in her division.
The second heat was a short 5 horse field worth $58,000 with no Show Wagering. Surreal Spirit (PP4-J. Gregory) was sent off as the post time favorite, Odds On Monetary (M. Kakaley) from post 2 was first to the front and the first split of 27.4, with the gappy pack behind her, the pack was still gappy and stretched out at the next panel in 56.2. They tightened up a bit in the 3rd turn. Odds On Monetary still showing the way 1:25.1 turning for home Hunting Memories pulled the earplugs and challenged Odd On Monetary to no avail as she cruised to a 1:53.1-$4.20 score. Surreal Spirit never found his stride but still finished third. Odds On Monetary Huntsville – All On Top Hanover picked up her second Sire Stake win for trainer Travis Alexander
In Excelsior action, Bueckers (American Ideal – Finnish Your Way) with Jason Barlett in the bike picked up a new lifetime record after her easy 9 length score in 1:53.3 -$2.10 for trainer Andrew Staffard. Joe Pavia Jr, picked up a pair of winners with Grazia a filly by Huntsville – Ramalama extended her win streak to 5 in row, and notched her second Excelsior seasonal with Jason Barlett in the bike, Pavia Jr. also scored win Long Shore (American Ideal – Butchie Beach) in 1:55.1 - $2.40
Matt Kakeley and Jason Bartlett each had 2 winning Sire Stakes winning drives, Trainers Andrew Stafford & Joe Pavia Jr. had 2 Stakes winners on the 11-race card, Greg Merton drove 2 wins on the overnight card.
