HARLEY RIDERS, SAVE THIS FOR YOUR NEXT BATTERY SWAP!
Changing a battery is pretty straightforward on many Harley-Davidson models, but the exact access and hardware vary by model/year. Here’s the basic process:
1. Turn the ignition OFF, remove the key, and make sure the bike is stable.
2. Remove the seat and any side cover/bracket needed to access the battery.
3. Disconnect the NEGATIVE (-) cable FIRST. This reduces the chance of accidentally shorting your wrench against the frame.
4. Disconnect the POSITIVE (+) cable SECOND.
5. Remove the battery strap/bracket and carefully lift the old battery out.
6. Install the correct replacement battery in the same orientation and secure it properly.
7. Reconnect the POSITIVE (+) cable FIRST.
8. Reconnect the NEGATIVE (-) cable LAST.
9. Make sure both terminals are secure, reinstall the covers/seat, then turn the ignition on and verify everything powers up normally.
⚠️ Pro tip: Don’t guess on battery type, terminal torque, or removal procedure, check the service/owner’s manual for your exact Harley model and year.
Whatever you do, don’t drop that little terminal bolt into the bike unless you planned on turning a 20-minute job into a 2-hour scavenger hunt 🤣
