DeLoreans ‘n Donuts

No this is not the Ferrari Powered DeLorean, no this is not the LS-Swapped DeLorean, and it sure as hell ain’t no EV swap 😎

The Kia Stinger V6 DeLorean built by Nick Reid at OMD in San Diego became one of the most intense and ambitious DeLorean builds ever completed. The swap transformed the car from a stainless steel icon into a modern performance machine, with the twin-turbo Stinger engine delivering a level of power and response the original platform was never meant to handle. The result was a DeLorean that didn’t just look futuristic, it finally drove like it.

The car gained major attention across the community, appearing in multiple DeLoreanTech YouTube videos and quickly becoming a fan favorite for its clean ex*****on and surprising performance. Its reputation only grew when it crossed the block on Bring a Trailer, where it sold for $250,000, cementing its status as one of the highest-profile DeLorean builds ever offered to the public.

From the engineering to the presentation, the OMD Stinger V6 DeLorean stood out as a rare combination of creativity, craftsmanship, and pure automotive nerve. It wasn’t just a modified DeLorean. It was a statement piece that proved how far the platform could be pushed when someone was bold enough to try.

New tech video is up!
DeLorean Oil Pressure Switch (Warning Light Sender) - Function and Replacement
https://youtu.be/N_TIkq0VJfs

If you’re seeing oil dripping down the side of the engine or collecting underneath the car, one of the most common sources on a DeLorean is the oil pressure switch itself. These switches often fail internally and begin leaking oil through the electrical terminal rather than from the threads. In the video, I show how to confirm that the leak is coming from the sender and not from a nearby fitting, hose, or the gauge sender. Once you see oil weeping out of the top of the switch or around the connector, that’s a clear sign the unit has failed and needs to be replaced.

The main focus here is diagnosing that leak and replacing the switch correctly. After identifying the source, the video walks through accessing the switch, removing the old unit without stressing the surrounding components, and installing the new one with the correct sealing method. It’s especially important to torque the new switch properly so the crush washer seals as designed—too little torque and it will seep, too much and you risk deforming the washer or damaging the housing. Once the new sender is in place, I show how to reconnect the wire, clean the area, and verify that the leak is gone after startup.

A few safety notes are worth keeping in mind. Always work on a cool engine, since the switch sits close to hot components. Avoid overtightening the new sender, because cracking the housing or the engine boss will create bigger problems than the leak you’re fixing. After installation, check carefully for fresh oil and make sure the warning light behaves normally. If the light still acts up after the leak is resolved, the issue may be in the wiring or the rest of the circuit rather than the switch itself.

Machining the factory DeLorean wheels has become a popular way to refresh the car’s original design without replacing it. The stock cast aluminum wheels already have an iconic turbine pattern, but machining the faces sharpens every line and gives the surface a crisp, uniform texture that wasn’t possible with early 1980s casting methods. By cutting a thin layer from the outer surfaces, the spokes and rim edges gain a bright, clean, precision‑cut look that pairs perfectly with the stainless steel body.

This process doesn’t change the wheel’s design, only the finish. The machined surface reflects light in a more controlled way, giving the wheels a subtle metallic shimmer while keeping the darker pockets untouched for contrast. Many owners choose this upgrade because it keeps the car visually authentic while making the wheels look new again, almost like a factory‑plus version of the original style.

Machined factory wheels strike a balance between preservation and enhancement. They respect the DeLorean’s heritage but bring out details that were always there, just waiting for modern machining to reveal them.

The most EXPENSIVE single part for the DeLorean! So much so that they actually reproduced this part against all odds.

The original left front fender (LFF) of a DeLorean has long been considered the rarest and most expensive body panel on the car, if not the most valuable single part for the car itself. For decades, it was the only stainless steel panel that could not be sourced new, and even used examples were almost impossible to find. This scarcity drove prices extremely high and created a kind of mythology around the part.

The original (non-reproduction) LFF has fetched more than any other big ticket single parts, including the doors, tub, frame, and even the coveted gas flap hood (which is an assembly of more than one part anyway and not a single part). Crate engines and other assemblies of parts don't count since they do not represent single parts.

The reason for the rarity goes back to the shutdown of the original DeLorean factory. After production ended, the stamping dies for the stainless body panels were disposed of by the supplier. Some dies were melted down, and others were dumped into the sea off the coast of Ireland in 1984. The left front fender die was among those lost, and because the factory had not yet begun a new run of left fenders before the shutdown, the supply of new old stock panels was extremely small. As a result, owners who damaged the left fender had very few options, and surviving panels became some of the most sought-after parts in the entire DeLorean community. Over time, the price for a good used left fender climbed into the thousands of dollars, and even dented or repairable ones were considered valuable.

Because demand remained high and supply was nearly nonexistent, DeLorean Motor Company in Texas began exploring what it would take to reproduce the part. They started by mounting a new old stock left fender to a section of a DeLorean underbody and creating a detailed 3D scan. Engineers cleaned up the CAD file using original factory drawings, then produced 3D printed test sections to verify the fit of the corners, wheel arch, and mounting points. Once the design was confirmed, new tooling was commissioned so the part could be stamped again in proper 304 stainless steel.

The reproduction project required over a thousand hours of development work and significant investment, but it finally resulted in the first newly manufactured DeLorean body panel in more than forty years.
