Hello again folks. The time has come. As previously mentioned in August, I have moved all of my possessions home from my shop.

It is at this time that due to a number of factors, I choose to announce that I will be placing DTailed AutoSpa on the back burner as I focus on other facets of my life and my career.

There truly do not exist words to show how grateful I am to the countless people that have supported me, both directly and indirectly in this incredible journey, most from the start in my year of mobile detailing out of my Odyssey.

I have learned so much, not just about detailing, but the ins and outs of owning and running a business, interacting with people, building a brand and website, and all the other minute details that had to come together to make this venture as successful as it was.

This experience will surely go on to serve me through the rest of my life.

“But Derek, I really wanted you to work on my car!” I will still find time to take the odd client car here and there, it will just be in my home garage sometime between April and October, so worry not if you’re still after some of the DTailed Secret Sauce, it’s not going away forever. I may find another shop space in the future, but for now, I have chosen to keep it compact.

Please enjoy a gallery of just a handful of the cars I’ve worked on over the past couple years while I had my shop.

Thank you all for your business, so very much.

The owner of this Audi S4 is a buddy of mine who was very excited to get the car to me. From the moment he bought it, he's been disappointed with how the car looked. Dull, clogged paint, scratches and swirls everywhere, and just an overall bland appearance.

After one of the more thorough decontamination washes I've done, I set to work sorting this thing out. A stout polish took care of the thick layer of caked on gunk that was robbing a ton of clarity from the paint, as well as a vast majority of the swirl marks and random scratches throughout the car.

Took care of a few other things while we had the car as well. The client decided to remove the chrome badging, I then wet sanded and polished behind it, and installed new black badging for a more stealth look. I was happy to remove the less than stellar taillight tint and polish the OEM taillights to a rich ruby red. I also removed years of gunk and soot from the tailpipes.

After everything was wrapped, it got a heavy helping of Gyeon Infinite Type 2 ceramic coating to help keep it looking good for the long haul and help keep upkeep easy peasy.

The end result was a car that looked fifteen years newer and absolutely dripping wet. My buddy was beside himself when he picked up his "new" car!

The day one followers might recognize this one! This loaded up F150 was one of the very first vehicles I ceramic coated under DTailed AutoSpa!

It came back after over two years for an all around clean and to address a couple area where the owner wasn’t happy with the water beading behavior. We determined the coating was clogged due to a mix of lack of contact washes and long haul daily highway trips down salt caked highways.

After a several hours of decontamination, we unclogged most of the coating, but a few areas like the hood and areas directly behind the tires, while still protected and easy to wash, just weren’t rejecting water. These areas were polished off and a fresh application of ceramic coating was installed to restore day one beading properties.

Also touched up a couple a couple scuffs and scrapes that have happened over the last couple years, including wet sanding out most of the damage that occurred when a ladder fell on the B-pillar trim.

Proof positive that I’m always here for my clients, ready and willing to help down the road.

This handsome German super saloon was treated to a full body pampering at DTailed AutoSpa.

This B8 Audi S4 sports a six speed manual transmission and belongs to a good friend of mine. I went with him a few years ago to help him pick it up and he told me he wanted me to work on it at some point. My buddy is a man of his word and dropped it off with me last week and I got to work.

First up was a deep, DEEP decontamination. High performance German brakes generate a ton of brake dust, and this car was no exception. A deep wash and several treatments of iron remover did their job. A heavy handed clay treatment remedied the sandpaper-like paint. Some spot wet sanding and two stages of polishing vaporized years of random isolated defects and dealership wash swirls, revealing the gorgeous flake-laden paint underneath.

The new finish was locked in with a heaping helping of Gyeon Infinite Type 2 ceramic coating to protect this year-round daily driver from the torment of an MN winter.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:

Hey folks, sucks to say, but unfortunately the business that I share my shop space with will be moving on to a building that better suits their needs. I certainly can’t afford $15K of rent on my own, so I will be returning to my roots for a while and doing vehicles out of my garage for the foreseeable future, at least until Spring when I can figure out what I’m doing for a shop space.

THAT SAID, if you have a full size truck, SUV, or large crossover, there’s a good chance that it will not fit in my short garage door. If you’ve been holding on getting your larger vehicle corrected and coated, now is the time. I anticipate that within one to two months, I will need to move back into my garage, so any large vehicles will need to be knocked out before then.

Thanks in advance for your understanding, and as always, your continued support.

Have you ever heard the term “color correction” being thrown around and wondered how it differs from paint correction?

Paint correction is an all encompassing term that involves removing defects, scratches, oxidation, etc.

Color correction refers specifically to removing swirls, oxidation and faded clear coat that literally make the paint appear to be a different color.

I can’t think of a better example of it than this. This gorgeous metal flake loaded purple was being hidden underneath years of oxidation from harsh sunlight, poor maintenance, and general neglect.

After correction is complete, protection(I.E. ceramic coating, wax, sealant) and maintenance will be paramount to keeping the paint from getting this beat up again.

One of my best clients brought his RS5 back after a year of driving for its annual inspection wash.

He's done a great job keeping up on it and the coating is behaving like I just applied it yesterday!

Quick cleanup for my pals over at Patience Metal Fab on this heavily modified C10.

They take customer satisfaction seriously, so they had me give this unit a good wash before returning it to their client after doing some fab work on it.

Always gotta be careful with clean black paint!

The owner of this handsome BMW M550i was about ready to trade it in due to just how used it looked. Years of dealership wash damage, parking lot bumps and scrapes, and swirls of all kinds had this thing looking tired at only five years old.

Luckily he brought it to me to bring it back from the brink. After a serious decontamination process, some VERY heavy handed paint correction sliced through the severe defects in the thrashed black paint and revealed gobs of gorgeous flake in the paint that now throws sun like crazy! Some touch up paint work was then done to help hide some of the more severe scrapes and gouges.

After the correction work was done, the finish was locked in with a heaping helping of Gyeon Infinite Type 2, our highest end ceramic coating. This will help the owner keep up on maintenance and the car looking brand new.

This car turned out awesome, the owner was thrilled, and he's planning on keeping it now.

This 50th anniversary C5 Corvette came into the shop courtesy of my new pal, Rick. We met at one of the small Corvette meets I put on at my shop, and after seeing my C5, he wanted his to look the same!

He just bought it in autumn of last year, and even though it only had 40k on it, this Vette was covered in a lot of "love marks." Marks instilled in the paint by wiping it down with poor quality microfiber cloths, using car covers, and less than ideal wash techniques. Defects like this tend to be common on these cars.

After a thorough decontamination, a stout single step polish was performed to remove the majority of defects. Some touch up paint work and light spot sanding were also required to get this rig back to acceptable condition.

After the paint correction work was complete, it was treated to our top shelf Gyeon ceramic coating to lock in the shine, and along with proper education and care techniques, keep this Vette looking phenomenal for the long haul.

The owners of this BMW 330i were in the middle of a cross country road trip when they got stuck behind a construction vehicle that coated their entire car in a fine mist of asphalt emulsion.

Luckily they had a 24 hour planned stop in Minneapolis. They found DTailed AutoSpa and chose us thanks to our stellar Google reviews (side note: a HUGE thank you to everyone that leaves reviews! It helps so much more than you know!)

We evaluated the car when they got into town and they dropped it the next day. I got to work dissolving and scrubbing off all the tar spots, then performing physical and chemical decontamination to remove all the other embedded contaminants on the car. This was followed up by a gloss enhancement polish to remove the marring instilled by the tar removal, as well as cut through the dull paint to seriously crank up the gloss on this white Bimmer.

After polishing, the car got a ceramic spray sealant applied to keep it protected for the trip home.

The final result? Turning this couple’s nightmare scenario into “this car looks absolutely 100% better than when we bought it!”
