Today marks the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence announcing the United States as an independent nation. US independence was shaped by everyday individuals whose stories you can often find in cemeteries. You can read about some of these stories at our blog post here: https://news.findagrave.com/2026/06/15/stories-of-the-revolutionary-war/ . The Kirk Session records recently added to Scotland’s People are different to the ones already available: they’re records of churches which broke away from the Church of Scotland in the 1700s and 1800s.

They include records of the United Presbyterian, Free, United Free and other Protestant churches - 262 congregations which broke away and later rejoined the Church of Scotland.
