Ready to head west this week to the great white dyno and do some more testing/ tuning on the roadster to see how fast she will go this year. Excited to get back out to hot rod mecca and see my annual land speed friends.

While mowing the lawn at the house i had a thought about a statement brought back up again the other day. It has been mentioned to me multiple times over the years. A lot of people think small business owners just rake in money off the backs of employees while sitting in the office with out feet up on the desk.

You just have employees your paying $30 an hour while profiting $100. So lets break this down in some round numbers. Even though i dont have employees so this will be a generalization.

Lets start with the basics
Facility $500k
Tools/ equipment $500k
Electric $400 month
Water $100 month
Trash $20 month
Internet/ phones $250 month
Security system $75 month
Webhosting $50 month

Then you add employees

$30 per hour per employee
Plus workers comp, unemployment your at about $40-$45 an hour.
They work 40 hours and get paid 40 even if they only bill 20.
If you have benefits package that adds more to employee $.

Then add in building maintenance, machine maintenance, unseen monthly expenses, business reinvestment for expansion, property tax, sales tax, income tax.

Plus the biggest thing for any business owner - we carry 100% of the risk/ liability of the success or failure of the business, paying all bills, and meeting payroll.

If you think its all cake and nothing but huge profit margins get out there and take the risk, put your ass on the line. Put up or shut up, the choice is yours since the grass is so green.

Just a random thought on a remark, and dont get me started on why a shop cant build a high quality car for under $200k ( on the low end ) any more. 🤣

The modified roadster is pretty much all ready for speed week. Going to hit the dyno later today to get a few things dialed in then throw the body back on and we can head west.

Welded in and working the seam back out. Going to cut some bar stock and machine it to match the inside of the belt line where the seam is for a contour dolly to make the last bit much easier to finish out.

Wheel well welded in and seam hammered out and everything finished out with scotchbrite pad finish. Ready to trim and fit the quarter to the car.

Wrapped up the PS model A sedan door rebuild on the Buckles sedan. Now getting back to the DS quarter panel getting the wheel well welded in and the quarter tacked to the car.

If you need rails and want me to haul them west with me my way to speed week I need to get you on the bend schedule in the next couple days to get them done. So if you have been on the fence lets get those rails in ht works to save you a lot of $$ on freight!

Final Bonneville prep. Put a new distributor in after having some timing issues at El Mirage in may. While setting the timming and myself found the fuel pump was leaking. So now to swap that out and the car should be ready.

A little morning work on the GT. Got the fog lights working, headlights adjusted, front clip adjusted over as it was mis aligned by about 3/16, adjusted the doors since they drug on the striker, and a quick once over on fluids to make sure things are not disappearing. My repair/ upgrade is getting shorter until i get into the bigger systems this winter.

I am gonna call this one done. Now off to .customs to fit, shimmed, and hemmed, and on the car. This one was a challenge for sure. Would have been a touch easier if my arms were longer lol.

Starting to get things hammered back out to close to where they need to be. My arms are feeling it too lol. Not going for metal finished perfection on this one either but get it to about 90%. So much time goes into getting to this point and to take it further is exponentially more time demanding. Hoping to get it wrapped up today or tomorrow and headed out back to . customs

Porsche sun roof delete wrapped up. Not 100% metal finished but took it to about 90%. Thats about where i take most panel work since the last 10% is 90% of the work and the cost, and the roof will have a light skim across it whether its 90% or 100%. So 90% metal finished is where i like to leave them unless it ends up being a polished body or specifically requested by the client. #911

Got the hood sections all trimmed, fit and welded on the aluminum Galaxie hood today. Tomorrrow starts thr e tedious task of hammering every back out and getting the seams finished.

Working on getting the Porsche 911 sun roof delete/ filler panel shaped up on the power hammer. Should have it ready to weld up by the end of the day today if all goes as planned.
