The "Real Mechanic" Insight: Why Your Fuel System is Failing
Most people think a "no-start" is just a dirty carburetor, but as a technician with 20 years of experience, I’ve seen that it’s usually a symptom of a larger system failure. There are a few "hidden" issues I look for that most 5-minute DIY videos completely miss.
The Filter Trap: I often see inline fuel filters added where they don't belong. On smaller engines, this creates a restricted port that starves the carburetor of fuel, leading to a mower that "runs" but won't actually work under load.
The Venturi Reality: These systems rely on precise air-to-fuel ratios. Even a microscopic air leak at a fuel line ni**le or a deteriorating gasket can throw the whole system off, leading to endless priming and frustration.
The Storage Solution: If your equipment has a fuel shut-off, using it to run the engine dry at the end of the season is the best way to prevent the "gunk" that eats gaskets and clogs jets.
I don't believe in "parts changing" or "quick hacks" that lead to more issues down the road. Whether it’s a small engine or a complex automotive system, I apply a meticulous standard to ensure the job lasts.
