How much difference can a properly designed bellmouth make? Apparently quite a bit!

A while back, I designed and 3D printed a bellmouth for The Instigator. Recently, I decided to try that same bellmouth on a completely different setup, a stock 6.0L with a cam and a stock LSA blower.

The results were pretty impressive!

🔴 With bellmouth: 620.67 HP

🟢 Without bellmouth: 600.92 HP

Nearly 20 HP difference at peak and over 50 HP down low!

Here’s the interesting part. Both pulls were made on the EXACT same tune. We literally just removed the bellmouth and made another pull. Nothing else changed.

And what’s even crazier is that this bellmouth wasn’t designed for this throttle body or blower setup. It was designed for a completely different application!

I’d be willing to bet that a bellmouth designed specifically around this throttle body would produce even better results.

It’s pretty impressive what a little attention to inlet airflow can accomplish. Sometimes it’s not about adding more boost or throwing more parts at something. It’s about making what you already have work more efficiently.

What a weekend at The Tailgate ThrowDown!

We left Thursday evening and headed to Newport Raceway with the boys. After a long week of work and scrambling to get the S10 ready, we finally got everything loaded up and hit the road.

I’d seen a lot of people online talking about how tricky the track was, so I wasn’t really sure what to expect. We got there Friday, made three test passes, and knew right then we had a hot rod. The track honestly wasn’t near as bad as everyone made it out to be.

We entered Hot Street Mini and managed to work our way all the way to the finals, where we lined up against Tim Garcia in Swanky. That was a pretty cool matchup for us. Not only does that truck GET DOWN, but the last time we raced him was when my S10 got completely sideways going across the finish line. If you’ve seen that video, you know exactly what I’m talking about. Needless to say, we had a little unfinished business.

This time we got our redemption and pulled off the win!

The video is from the finals. It wasn’t our fastest pass of the weekend, but we did manage to set a new no-prep personal best on a track that supposedly wasn’t worth a damn. I’ll take that!

Also, a big congratulations to Daniel Parker with 187 Customs for taking the win in Hot Street Full Size! That big ass truck with a little motor was flat getting down. We knew everybody was paying attention when people kept talking about how that thing was on rails, and we couldn’t find a single person willing to bet against him.

Not too bad for a reality TV star who supposedly doesn’t really race!

All in all, a hell of a weekend. Got to spend it with my boys, race some fast trucks, bring home a win, and make some memories. Can’t ask for much more than that.

Here it is! The Brian Tooley Racing Canted Valve head test!

What started as a simple tune turned into some back-to-back testing on the dyno.

These heads are legit, and the horsepower and RPM gains speak for themselves!

We got this truck back on the dyno, and it made massive gains, not only in horsepower, but also in RPM. The new Brian Tooley Racing heads did exactly what I expected them to do.

There’s still more in it. The Texas Speed & Performance Torque V2 cam isn’t ideal for this combination. I think a little less intake duration and considerably more exhaust duration would better complement the new heads and ProCharger setup and make even more power.
