Mechanic Monday tip: fall starts tomorrow, which means cooler mornings and a battery that has to work harder to do the same job. Heat is what damages a battery, but cold is what exposes the damage. If yours cranked slowly even once this summer, get it tested now rather than during the first cold snap.

Myth Buster Friday: you should idle your engine for several minutes before driving off. Modern fuel injected engines do not need it. About thirty seconds is plenty, then drive gently for the first few miles. Everything warms up faster under light load, and long idling mostly just burns fuel. The one real exception is clearing frost off the glass, and that is about visibility, not the engine.

Air filters are easy to forget about. A clogged engine air filter makes your engine work harder than it should, and a clogged cabin filter makes your heat and AC weaker and your air stale. Both are quick to check and inexpensive to replace. Ask us to look at them next visit.
