πŸŽ‰ THANK YOU!! πŸŽ‰

I honestly can't believe I'm saying this...

"In The Shop" with Atomic Autoworks Garage has officially reached #182 on the Automotive Podcast charts!

For a brand-new podcast filmed right here in our upholstery shop in Middlefield, Connecticut, that's pretty incredibleβ€”and it's all because of you.

Our goal has never been to become another celebrity podcast. We want to build something different...

A place where the people who actually build, restore, fabricate, paint, upholster, tune, race, and keep this industry alive can tell their stories.

Whether you're a professional, a weekend builder, a student learning the trade, or just someone who loves cars, trucks, motorcycles, and everything automotiveβ€”we want this to be your community.

This is just the beginning, and we have some amazing guests lined up. But we need your help to keep growing.

πŸ‘‰ If you've enjoyed the podcast, please:

From the bottom of my heart... thank you for believing in what we're building.

It's Finally Finished... What Do You Think?

After countless hours in the shop, this Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint interior is finally complete!

One of the things we love most about Stitch Freak DIY Interior Kits is watching an old interior come back to life. This one is headed back to its owner, and we couldn't be happier with how it turned out.

While this kit was built for an Alfa Romeo, Stitch Freak also develops interior kits and products for many British sports cars, Italian classics, muscle cars, hot rods, classic trucks, and custom builds.

There's something incredibly satisfying about taking a vehicle that's been waiting for decades and giving it a fresh start.

Would you restore it to original... or add your own custom touches?

We'd love to hear what you'd do!

We planned to film the entire installation...

Then reality happened.

We originally planned to film a complete, in-depth installation of this full Stitch Freak DIY interior kit, but real shop life had other plans.

Our customer needed his vintage Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint back, so we had to keep the project moving instead of stopping constantly to film every step.

Even though we could not document the entire installation, this episode still includes a detailed walkthrough of the kit and a step-by-step look at installing the custom door panels. Eddie also explains how they were built, why we chose certain materials, and the details that help everything fit correctly.

This is an honest look at a day in the automotive upholstery tradeβ€”balancing craftsmanship, customer deadlines, and creating educational content at the same time.

We hope you enjoy Episode 8B and pick up a few useful ideas for your own interior project.

Follow Atomic Autoworks Garage for more automotive upholstery, classic car interiors, shop fundamentals, and real-world craftsmanship.

Before You Throw Away That Scrap Vinyl... Watch This! πŸ‘€

Most upholstery shops throw away their leftover vinyl, leather, and materials. We look at it a little differently.

This drawer liner was made from a scrap piece of black imitation leather with yellow diamond stitching, backed with sew foam to help protect and quiet down the tools in the toolbox.

Sometimes the coolest projects come from the materials everyone else would toss in the trash.

πŸ’¬ What would YOU make from upholstery scraps?

Can You Still Read an American Ruler? | Shop Fundamentals #1

Can you accurately read an American ruler?

It sounds simple, but it's one of the biggest skills missing in today's skilled trades.

In the first lesson of our new Shop Fundamentals series, we break down the American (SAE) measuring system step by stepβ€”from 1/64" all the way to 1/2"β€”and explain how each fraction relates to the next.

If you're interested in auto upholstery, autobody, restoration, fabrication, woodworking, welding, or just want to improve your shop skills, accurate measuring is one of the most important foundations you can learn.

In this lesson you'll learn:
βœ”οΈ How to read an American ruler
βœ”οΈ Understanding fractional measurements
βœ”οΈ Why measurement accuracy matters
βœ”οΈ How SAE measurements relate to common shop tools
βœ”οΈ Real-world measuring tips used every day in professional automotive shops

At Atomic Autoworks Garage, our mission is to help educate the next generation of skilled tradespeople through real-world training and practical experience.

πŸ’¬ Question: What's one basic shop skill you wish someone had taught you when you first started?

We are Learning Auto Upholstery the Right Way | Alfa Romeo Rear Quarter Panel Restoration

Most upholstery videos show you the finished product.

In this episode, we show you how a real upholstery shop thinks.

Working on a vintage Alfa Romeo, we explain why we chose to reuse the original rear quarter panels as templates instead of building new panels from scratch. We cover shop workflow, work ethic, decision making, tools, materials, and the techniques used every day in professional automotive upholstery.

You'll see how we:

βœ” Evaluate existing panels
βœ” Use original parts as templates
βœ” Apply marine-grade vinyl
βœ” Glue and wrap materials properly
βœ” Finish edges cleanly
βœ” Reinstall original chrome trim
βœ” Make restoration decisions that save time while maintaining quality

If you've ever wanted to learn automotive upholstery, restore classic cars, or enter the trades, this series was built for you.

We also provide access to many of the tools and materials we use so you can learn and work on your own projects at home.

HOURS UPON HOURS GONE... and it wasn't our fault.

This motorcycle came to us already painted. The plan was simple: add custom flames, clear coat it, and send it home looking incredible.

Then the nightmare started.

As we removed the masking, the existing paint underneath began peeling off the motorcycle. What looked like a completed paint job turned into a complete failure that no amount of skill, effort, or premium materials could fix.

Most shops would never show you this side of the business.

We did.

Because real custom work isn't just about the perfect finished photos. It's about understanding what can go wrong, how professionals diagnose problems, and why previous workmanship matters.

This one cost us more than 16 hours and ultimately had to go back to the original painter.

That's real shop life.

Have you ever had a project that looked perfect until one hidden problem changed everything?
