The 68RFE transmission often gets a bad reputation for weak overdrive clutches but in reality, those clutches are usually just the symptom of a deeper issue.

In this failure, a snap ring came loose and caused excessive movement in the drum. That movement led to the overdrive clutch pack burning up. It didn’t stop there—the added play also allowed contact that damaged the 2–4 piston assembly.

WHEN CHAOS STRIKES, WE'RE JUST A CALL AWAY! WHETHER YOU'RE CLOSE TO HOME OR MILES DOWN THE ROAD, BREAKDOWNS DON'T WAIT FOR THE RIGHT TIME. THIS 6.4 POWERSTROKE ROLLED IN AFTER OVERHEATING WHILE TOWING A TRAILER. OUR THOROUGH DIAGNOSTIC REVEALED A SHOCKING 3 GALLONS OF COOLANT IN THE OIL PAN, AND WE UNVEILED BEARING MATERIAL IN THE FLUID. SADLY, THIS CUSTOMER WILL NEED A COMPLETE ENGINE REBUILD. Unlike a basic multimeter or code reader, an oscilloscope allows us to visually monitor live electrical signals in real time. This means we can see voltage patterns, signal integrity, and timing relationships with precision. Whether it's a glitchy sensor, intermittent communication error, or injector signal issue, the scope gives us a clear window into how the system is actually performing under load and in real-world conditions.

When you mix 5.9 Cummins torque, a set of Dynomite Diesel 45% over injectors, upgraded valve springs, push rods, rocker bridges, and a spicy Hardway Performance tune... but keep the stock turbo and have a driver who thinks the accelerator pedal is an on/off switch — something's gotta give.

RIP to this billet input shaft on a 48RE that never stood a chance.
We’re not saying the driver has a heavy foot… but we are saying the torque was asking politely and the trans was screaming for mercy.

Built engine? Check. Built habits? Not so much.
Stay tuned as we upgrade this combo to match the horsepower... and maybe install a “lift pedal awareness” sticker on the dash.

Just finished a head gasket repair on a 6.7 Cummins, and we did it the right way with precision, care, and attention to detail.

At Price Diesel Performance, we go beyond just replacing parts. Our process starts by running the cylinder head through our heated parts wash cabinet, ensuring a clean, oil-free surface before we inspect for flatness, cracks, and any valve or valve seat damage. This allows us to only replace the head when it’s truly necessary saving our customers money without cutting corners.

We never use abrasive tools when cleaning the block or cylinder head sealing surfaces, preserving critical tolerances and preventing unnecessary damage. Every bolt hole is carefully chased and tapped to ensure proper torque values and clean thread engagement during reassembly.

To top it off, this build received an upgrade to heavy-duty head studs, giving the engine better clamping force and long-term reliability under boost.

Even better, we keep all the necessary parts for this repair in stock, which means reduced downtime and faster turnaround for our customers.

This is the kind of diesel work that sets us apart.
