🚛 TRAILER TIP TUESDAY 🚛
Don't confuse GVWR, Dry Weight, and Payload—they're NOT the same thing!
🔹 GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating)
This is the maximum legal weight of the trailer PLUS everything loaded on it. You should never exceed this number.
🔹 Dry Weight (Empty Weight)
This is what the trailer weighs by itself from the factory with no cargo inside.
🔹 Payload Capacity
This is how much cargo you can safely carry.
The Formula is Simple:
GVWR - Dry Weight = Payload Capacity
Example:
✅ GVWR: 7,000 lbs
✅ Dry Weight: 2,000 lbs
✅ Payload Capacity: 5,000 lbs
That means you can safely load up to 5,000 pounds of cargo.
⚠️ Remember: Just because a trailer looks like it can haul more doesn't mean it should. Overloading can damage your trailer, wear out tires, reduce braking performance, and could even result in a citation if you're over the trailer's rated capacity.
