OKay. Okay, here’s a lap from the TLM Racing #HippyPorsche at Daytona on Sunday! 😎 The cars around me in this video are 991.2 Cup Car - this means they have 4.0 liter engines. We’re racing 991.1 Cup Cars - because they have 3.8 liter engines like ours, but there are a few small differenced between our old girl and the newer cars… She’s a little less stable than our 991, especially on braking and under corner entry. Managing the instability at corner entry means you sometimes under-rorate a little at entry, which means you understeer mid-corner, which makes her a little snappy coming off the turns. The link is definitely NOT flat! 🙈 You need to use the shifter, not paddles, so there’s an amount of one hand on the wheel stuff, and she likes you to use the clutch in your downshifts. She jumps sideways a little when you up shift on the banking - she’s making sure you’re paying attention! You can’t see that on this onboard, but if you find the onboard from one of those 4.0s coming past me, you’ll see it then! 😉 Also… she didn’t *quite* have the right gear stack in for Daytona… I’m trying to hold the right amount of throttle to keep her as close to the rev limited as possible without hitting it in 6th gear as I come down the front straight. And yet… She sure is engaging to drive. AND she set 5th fastest lap of the race of the 3.8 liter cars. 😈 #CoachingAndCoDriving #SemiTameRacingDriver #OnBoardVideo #RideWithMe #BecauseRaceCar
It was quite the weekend for Jody at Daytona! POLE in qualifying in #TresLeches - AND the second fastest lap we saw all weekend in a 991.1 - the only person who went faster than him was a Porsche Factory driver - his time stood against all the other pros who hopped in on Sunday for the enduro! P1 and P2 in the first two sprint races, but contact in race 3 meant our 991 was out for the rest of the weekend. So we rolled our 997 - the #HippyPorsche - out of retirement for one last ride in the International GT Championship. There’s definitely some luck involved in catching the yellows right in these #IGTEnduro races, and we’re currently right at 50/50 getting it right and wrong - so there’s still some learning to do there. We didn’t get it righf this time out, and got stuck a couple of laps down, but this old girl did set 5th fastest lap of the race in the 3.8 liter class in a field of 991.1s! Super proud of Jody for the progress this year - the speed is there, and the race craft is coming! It just takes laps and experience! We’ll be back in 2022 with a 991.2 to compete in the 4.0 class, and with Tres Leches as our back-up car! Thank you to TLM Racing for being such a great team to work with again this season across multiple championships. Thank you to IGT for running a great Championship to bring people racing in.
