I was trying to do my own oil change but whoever engineered this car clearly never planned on people actually servicing it because the jack point is literally blocking the drain plug… so now I’m sitting here wondering why I shouldn’t just drill and tap a brand new drain plug hole somewhere else in the oil pan where it’s easier to reach instead of fighting this terrible design every single oil change…
I already know the dealership techs are going to start crying saying **that’s not structurally safe** and “metal shavings could destroy the engine” but meanwhile these same people will drill holes in exhausts for sensors and act like that’s completely normal. Honestly if I put the new drain plug higher up I could even leave a little extra oil in there at all times for emergency lubrication so technically it might actually **HELP** engine longevit..

Hello!!

Im replacing my brakes on my 2018 toyota chr and as im about to put my caliber back on the brake pad/rotor the caliber piston is shooting brake fluid out. I have the rear EPB disengaged. If someone could tell me if thats suppose to happen or if im doing something wrong or if I just completely broken it id appreciate it 😭 TYIA

TO the engineers who put tiny Phillips screws into brake rotors knowing they would rust solid for the next 15 years — THANK YOU for this incredible experience.

Brake job started out normal enough.
Then I got to the rotor.

Now the rotor is apparently molecularly bonded to the hub and refuses to acknowledge that it’s supposed to come off.

The retaining screws finally surrendered after a battle that shortened my lifespan, but the rotor itself still won’t budge despite repeated hammer attacks that sounded like I was forging medieval weapons in the driveway.

Meanwhile every YouTube mechanic says:
“it should slide right off.”

Fantastic.
Very cool.
Mine appears to be growing roots.

Anyone got actual rust-belt rotor removal tactics before I accidentally discover the maximum force rating of wheel studs?

Been fighting this caliper piston for an hour and the clamp literally snapped before the piston moved even a millimeter. At this point I’m one bad decision away from introducing this thing to a 25 ton press 😭🛠️

Caught my neighbor using a CAR BATTERY as a jack stand and I genuinely couldn’t believe my eyes 😭
Maybe I’m overreacting, but this feels like one of the most dangerous “temporary fixes” I’ve ever seen.
Is this actually as insanely unsafe as I think it is, or have I just become paranoid after spending too much time online?

Mechanic told me my brake pads only had 2mm left and quoted me $1,600 to replace them all on my C300. After getting hit with a $4k repair list during a simple oil change, I decided to buy the tools and do the brakes myself… only to pull the pads off and find they still look pretty thick. Am I missing something here?
