Replacing a sacrificial anode on the trim plate of a large yacht. Anodes should generally be replaced when they reach about 50% wear. That's why the old one may still look pretty big, but on expensive yachts, it's better to replace these parts before they become a problem. Just like in aviation, preventive maintenance is much cheaper than dealing with the consequences of a failure.
You can clearly see the difference between the old and new anodes in this video. It's not just about their size, but how much sacrificial material remains to corrode instead of the metal components we're protecting.
After removing the old anode, we thoroughly clean the mounting surface to ensure proper metal-to-metal electrical contact. Then we securely install the new one until the next scheduled replacement.
We use Zimar sacrificial anodes and don't cut corners on corrosion protection.
We also provide underwater hull cleaning, propeller restoration, removal of ropes and fishing lines from running gear, underwater inspections and video reports, zinc replacement, and other commercial diving services throughout Miami and South Florida.
