It is with heavy hearts that the family of Simmons Wrecker Service announces the passing of Evelyn Simmons Cowan.

Alongside her first husband, the late Roger Simmons, she was a pioneer in the history of Simmons Wrecker, helping to build a legacy that remains strong to this day. After Roger’s passing, she was blessed to find love again with Jim Cowan, who was lovingly by her side until the very end.

A funeral service will be held at Aberdeen First United Methodist Church on Tuesday, October 1. Visitation will take place from 10:00AM to 11:00AM, followed by the funeral at 11:00AM. Interment will follow on Wednesday at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Meridian.

Please be in prayer for Ricky, his sister Debbie, Jim and the rest of the family during this difficult time.

📚 It's Fact Friday! 📚

Did you know a Peterbilt wrecker was featured in the 1995 film Heat?

In the movie's opening scene, the heist crew uses a 1979 Peterbilt 359 wrecker to knock over an armored truck. The scene was problematic to film because armored vehicles are designed to resist being knocked over. The film crew had to add a lot of extra weight to the top of the armored car, and it still failed to tip over the first several times they rammed it.

The Peterbilt wrecker was owned by a Mississippi-based company called Simmons Wrecker Service, Inc., who loaned the truck for the filmmakers to use. After the film, the Peterbilt returned to Simmons Wrecker, who used the truck for many more years.
