⚠️ SOMETIMES, LUBRICATION IS NOT SAFE.

When it comes to wheel studs and lug nuts, more lubrication is not better.

Most manufacturer torque specifications are based on clean, dry, undamaged threads. Applying oil, grease, anti-seize, or another lubricant reduces friction and can dramatically change the clamping force created at the specified torque. This may result in overstretched studs, damaged threads, distorted brake components, or wheel-fastener failure.

At Universal Auto & Tire, we follow Tire Industry Association guidance and the vehicle manufacturer’s recommended service procedures. Unless the manufacturer specifically instructs otherwise, we do not lubricate wheel studs or lug nuts.

If a vehicle arrives with lubricant on the wheel fasteners, additional labor may be required to properly clean and inspect the studs, lug nuts, wheels, and mounting surfaces before the wheels can be safely installed and torqued. Any necessary cleaning, repairs, or replacement parts will be discussed with you and added to the repair order.

Labor Day is more than the unofficial end of summer.

It was established to recognize the contributions, achievements, and sacrifices of American workers — the people whose hard work helped build our country, our businesses, and our communities. Labor Day became a federal holiday in 1894, and more than 130 years later, that recognition still matters.

At Universal Auto & Tire, we’re proud of the people who work with their hands, solve problems, serve others, build businesses, raise families, and get up every day to keep our community moving.
