1. If you’re renting a boat, make sure you have a written agreement and are operating legally
2. Confirm the boat is equipped with safety essentials including life jackets, fire extinguishers, and a first aid kit
3. Pay attention to the captain’s safety briefing so you know what to do in case of an emergency
