I wanted to give a HUGE shoutout to Hollywood Feed located at Summer and Kirby Whitten.
They provide so many services for our working K9s, including feeding our dogs for free, and providing baths for our dogs. Thank you to Hollywood Feed for what you do to help our K9 team!

Apparently K9 Kodi, “smells like blueberries” after his bath.

Today, Officer Ethan Stewart was awarded the CPD Lifesaving Medal for his actions following a crash on July 5.

Shortly after midnight, Officer Stewart was the first to arrive at a single-vehicle crash on Houston Levee Road, south of Poplar Avenue. The vehicle was upside down and on fire, with the driver trapped inside and unconscious.

Officer Stewart first tried to reach the driver through the driver’s-side window but could not. He then moved to the passenger side and, at great risk to himself, crawled into the vehicle and pulled the driver through the window as smoke and flames came from the vehicle. Once Officer Stewart had pulled the driver out, a second officer arrived and helped carry the driver away from the fire.

The driver was transported to Regional One in critical condition and was later upgraded to stable condition. Officer Stewart was also checked at Baptist Collierville for smoke inhalation.

Officer Stewart works patrol on the midnight shift. He is also a member of the CPD Honor Guard and serves as an advisor for the CPD Explorer Post.

There is no doubt his quick actions made a difference that night. We are proud to recognize Officer Stewart with the Lifesaving Medal.

Move over a lane and slow down.

Deputy Erika Serrato, 24, of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, died after being struck by a heavy-duty commercial truck while directing traffic at the scene of a crash on Interstate 45 near Woodlands Parkway early Sunday morning.

According to investigators, deputies responded around 2:39 a.m. to a multi-vehicle crash involving an alleged intoxicated driver. As Deputy Serrato and other deputies worked to secure the scene and protect motorists, a commercial truck pulling a trailer struck her and two marked patrol vehicles with their emergency lights activated.

Deputy Serrato was rushed to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. She had served with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office for six years, beginning her career as a detention officer before becoming a patrol deputy just six months ago.

Another deputy was injured after being struck by debris but was treated and released from the hospital.

No charges have been filed against the commercial truck driver, who was hospitalized after the crash. The incident remains under investigation. The only charge announced so far is against 34-year-old Ashton Jammer, who faces a DWI charge for his alleged role in the initial crash deputies were responding to.

Our deepest condolences are with Deputy Serrato’s family, friends, and the men and women of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office as they mourn the loss of one of their own. Rest easy, Deputy Serrato. Your service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
