A customer books a $299 ceramic coating because it’s cheaper than the other guy.

Three months later the coating has failed. Water isn’t beading. There are high spots. The finish looks worse than before they spent the money.

Here’s what actually happened.

That shop didn’t do a single stage of paint correction. They wiped the car down, maybe clayed it, and slapped a coating on contaminated paint. No real decontamination. No polishing. No surface prep that actually matters.

You might want to warn your spouse first. 😂

Let’s go back in time for a second.

This 1999 Corvette came to us from a repeat client, and the Silver Metallic paint had picked up what 26 years on the road tends to leave behind. Marks, scratches, swirls, the whole story written right into the finish.

“Why do you need to see the car first? Can’t you just book me like that other guy down the road?”

We could. But we’re not that other guy. We don’t guess our way to good results.

Booking a car without seeing it is like ordering shoes without knowing the size. Might get lucky. Probably won’t.

Every car and every owner is different. Some want deep gloss and a finish that turns heads. Some just want to stop cringing every time they look in the back seat. We can’t tailor what we haven’t seen. That “small scratch” might need a two-stage correction. That “just needs a vacuum” interior might need full extraction. We’re not trying to scare you, we’re setting honest expectations so nothing blindsides you later.

Same goes for price. We don’t toss out a random number just to get you on the books. We look, we talk, we quote based on what the car actually needs. No sticker shock, no guessing.

We fix cheap ceramic coating jobs.

It’s becoming a bigger part of what we do, and that tells you plenty about where this industry’s headed.

It always goes the same way. Somebody finds a deal too good to pass up. Looks fine for a few weeks. Then the water stops beading, the finish goes hazy, or it’s high-spotting everywhere because it got rushed and never leveled.

Now here’s the rough part. Fixing it costs more than doing it right the first time. We strip what was put on, correct the paint that should’ve been corrected before any coating touched it, and start over. You end up paying twice.

A coating is only as good as the prep under it and the hands that install it. Cheap means skipped steps, and skipped steps always show up.

Stick with me for a second, because that probably sounds backwards coming from an award winning shop that installs them every day.

Here’s the thing. One of the biggest misconceptions out there is that a ceramic coating stops rock chips and scratches. It doesn’t. That’s what paint protection film is for. What a good coating actually does is hold up against UV, oxidation, bird bombs, bug guts, road grime, and all the junk Florida throws at your paint, while making the whole thing way easier to keep clean. The gloss and the water beading are nice, but that’s not really the point.

The point is keeping the vehicle in the shape it’s in for as long as possible.

And whether a coating actually pulls that off has almost nothing to do with the bottle it came out of. It comes down to what’s underneath it. A coating freezes the paint in whatever condition it’s in the day it goes on. Swirls, contamination, oxidation, none of that magically vanishes. You just seal it in and now you’re looking at it for years.

That’s exactly why decontamination and paint correction aren’t extras we try to upsell you. They’re the whole foundation. Skip them and you’ve wasted the coating.

So no, we don’t sell ceramic coatings. We prep the surface right, correct what needs correcting, and install a coating system built to keep your vehicle looking better and staying cleaner for the long haul. Big difference.

The year was 1999.

And this blast from the past C5 pulled into the right shop.

It rolled off the line back when gas was about a buck a gallon. Twenty-six years later, she’s still got that low, wide stance the C5 nailed, silver over gun metal gray wheels, looking the part.

But get up close on that emblem. What looks like cracked, lifted clear coat is actually years of dirt and grime caked into every edge and crevice. The kind of buildup a regular wash never touches because nobody’s getting in there with the right tools and the patience to do it. It just stacks up, season after season, until the emblem looks half its age.

That’s the stuff we live for. The areas everybody else skips. Decontamination and detail work pull all that grime back out and bring the finish back to where it should be.

A car like this doesn’t come around anymore. The ones still on the road deserve to be looked after right, down to the last emblem.
