A lot of people ask where we came up with the name Butterbean Acres. Well here's a little back story of how our name came about.
Keith Stanaland (pround owner and operator) grandmother was give butterbean seed back in 1942, and grew them every year, until she passed, then Keith's mother ,Dot Stanaland, took over, planting the seed every year. Mrs. Dot loved her butterbeans. You could always find her out tending to her garden, or inside shelling them. You had to be careful if you stopped by for a visit, she would put you to work helping with either. She always made sure every year to let some go to seed, so she would have more to plant the following year, and plenty to share with her community.
The family always "joked" that she would die in her garden one day. Well, all jokes aside, Mrs. Dot did die, doing what she loved, picking her butterbeans and the spry age of 91 years old.
So, when Keith decided to open an RV park, he decided to call it Butterbean Acres. Every year we plant a garden to share with all of our friends, family, and campers. And amongst that garden is always a large row of Butterbeans that come from the seed from 70 years ago. This seed has not been messed with in over 70 years, just planted, grown, and back to seed again. Some of the best Butterbeans you'll ever eat.
Pictured is Keith's great Aunt Ophelia at 111 years old, shelling some butterbeans from this years crop.
