Thank you to Symmetrix Composite Tooling for letting part of our team visit and tour their facility! We were able to see their incredible projects and received some valuable feedback for manufacturing our car’s aerodynamic shell (plus it was a super fun roadtrip).

We also just got approved for 26k of supplementary funding to prepare for our upcoming competition and are now working towards finishing up our sub team projects!

Huge thank you to professor James Intriligator for allowing our Solar-Array and Battery teams access to work in the Tufts IDEA lab. On top of that exciting news, we also just received our shipment of batteries and are ready to get started with testing!

The team has been starting off the spring semester right with our first project-team meetings of the year! With new recruits, and new material, the future is bright as we get the ball rolling on electrical setup, machine shop trainings, and team bonding :D

Happy New Year! This year has been a huge one for our team- we are now officially recognized as a club from Tufts Community Union, we have launched our crowdfunding campaign (link in bio to donate!) and we have begun construction on our first vehicle! So far, we have made progress on solar cell lamination, completed the mold for our chassis, and started manufacturing on our steering and suspension systems. We are so grateful for everyone involved this year and we are excited for everything coming down the road in 2024! 🌞

It was our pleasure to host James Worden, the person who started MIT's solar car team (SEVT) back in 1987, and designed and built their first Solarelectria vehicles!

As we work on building our project's first car, James' talk about his experience starting the team was inspirational. It reminded us about why we chose to start solar racing: to learn, be at the cutting edge of vehicle design, and make experiences that last a lifetime.

Tufts Solar Vehicle Project has come a long way since we first started. The aerodynamics team has been hard at work refining our aero-shell. Our current design is performing excellently in CFD simulations. We use Ansys Fluent for detailed simulations and SOLIDWORKS for experimentation. We believe our current design will be one of the most aerodynamic solar cars in the world, and it's only going to get better as we refine it. The aero team's next steps will be refining the canopy to fit regulations, integrating the bodywork with the chassis, preparing mold designs, and optimizing the shell's construction through material testing and composite simulations.

Tufts Solar Racing (Now called Vehicle Project) is now live.

We are a student-initiated project instated in conjunction with the mechanical engineering department of Tufts University, dedicated to designing, building, and racing cross-continent capable solar powered vehicles, while providing opportunities for Tufts students to get real-world, hands-on engineering opportunities. We intend to use our vehicle and the knowledge we gain to inspire future generations of engineers around the world.

If you are interested, fill out this form to get on our elist, and stay tuned for a GIM early in the spring semester.
