A Flash of the Past.................Here are remaining remenants of gold mining history in the ghost town of Independence in the Upper Boulder Valley south of Big Timber. In the late 1800's over 700 prospectors inhabited this mountainous area seeking their fortune in hazardous and difficult working condidtions. Collapsed cabin structures, abandoned mining equipment. and the walls of the Independence Post Office remain which give us a glance of what took place in this remote area of Montana. Taking the jeep ride up to Monument Peak for the day does not always go smoothly! 😟 Luckily, our driver, Joe, has had a lot of experience with flat tires! 🔧The Pinzgauer always carries two spares just to be prepared.🛞🛞 It only takes a few minutes to switch out tires and get back on the road again! Notice how many assistants (or at least observers) join in to help. Even the youngsters get involved... 🧏‍♂️🤦www.hawleymountain.com

Check out the routine of the day for our h orses at Hawley Mountain Ranch🐎🐎🐎.........horses are brought to the barn at 6:30 am, they get their serving of corn, take guests on unique trail rides, and then head to the pasture at 5:00 pm for a night of grazing and rest, preparing for the r day ahead as a ranch employee. Wrangler Ellayna closes the pasture gate, which finishes her horse activates for the day as well.👍 www.hawleymountain.com

A Blast from the Past:
Before the Pinzgauer, our military vehicle from Austria, hauled guests up into the high country, Old Blue and the Red Rig did the strenuous work of transportation. Both were 1978 pickups that trudged along extremely rugged roads to get to the mountainous peaks of gold mining history and recreational experiences. Past guests from the 70's through the 2010's could enlighten us on the "comfort comparison" of those trips and NOW! Not for the faint of heart, but such great memories!
