Matthew is an up-and-coming technician in the automotive industry with a strong passion for problem-solving. He enjoys the fact that every vehicle is unique, presenting new challenges and opportunities to learn and grow.

When asked what he enjoys most about working at Burdick Auto Solutions, Matthew shares:
“How easily everyone gets along and treats each other with respect.” He also believes that honesty and trust are what truly set Burdick Auto Solutions apart from other shops.

Outside of work, Matthew enjoys cooking and spending time with his family, including his twin brother and two younger siblings. He aspires to one day own a diesel performance shop.

The question we hear the most is, “How much is it going to cost?” In this video, we explain why that is a tough number to give the moment you drop the car off.

Before we can talk price, our technician has to diagnose the problem by checking sensors, wiring, and other systems throughout the car. Once we know what is actually going on, we can give a real answer instead of a guess.

Getting a quick lesson from underneath the truck while we look at the drivetrain. He breaks down how all wheel drive stays in four wheel drive, while a 4x4 can run two wheel drive or four wheel drive.

You can see the transfer case tied into the transmission, and he points out the extra drive shaft that can free spin without turning the wheels. Hit the button in the cab and the motor connects the gears, linking front to rear so all four wheels can pull when you are stuck in mud, snow, or sand.

Jimmy’s walking through a simple tire change lesson, and the first tip is real: tires are heavy, so roll them when you can. He has them get down on the ground so they can see the bolts and line everything up the right way.

He starts by lining up the bottom of the tire first, then lifting it just enough to slide it on. Then he shows the easy setup: sit down, straddle the tire, put one leg on each side, and line it up before you push it in.

Adam is sitting down at his desk talking about what makes this job rewarding for him. He says it is watching his team grow and being able to help advance their careers. He also talks about guiding people through different seasons of life so they can get better personally and professionally.

When he shares the best career advice he has ever received, it is simple: do not give up. Adam explains that the hard times will come, but you can learn from failures and apply those lessons to what you are doing today. He believes the growth can be exponential if you allow it to be.

Earl is breaking down how the gas pedal has changed as cars have gotten more advanced. He walks through the old-school setup where a cable from the pedal connected to the carburetor and moved a valve or plate to make the car go.

On modern vehicles, he explains how that pedal movement goes to a sensor, then a computer interprets it and sends a signal to an actuator. Earl says that generally today’s cars are more responsive and built with tighter tolerances. He also keeps it real: with more computers and communication in the car, there is more electronics that can go wrong.
