In our modern, hectic world, we are constantly rushing. We race from one task to the next, always looking at the clock. But this weekend, I ask you to do something difficult: slow down.
Memorial Day weekend often marks the start of summer. We think of barbecues, road trips, and days off. There is nothing wrong with celebrating. In fact, joy is exactly what this day is about. But we must remember the cost of that joy.
It is not just a holiday. It is a sacred debt.
Every laugh we share with our children today was paid for. Every quiet evening on the porch was funded by someone who never got to come home to theirs. The freedom to simply sit with our families and watch the sunset is a gift from the brave men and women who sacrificed everything. They lost their futures so that we could have ours.
When we rush through life, we take their sacrifice for granted. The best way to honor the fallen is to truly live.
So, put down your phones. Forget your to-do lists for a moment. Hug your family a little tighter today. Listen closely to their stories. Laugh louder. Be entirely present in this moment.
As we enjoy our time together, let us pause to remember those who are missing from their own family tables today. Let us honor the fallen, support their families, and live lives worthy of their incredible sacrifice.
Thank you, and have a blessed, meaningful Memorial Day.
