The car is fully set up so throttle and braking are controlled by hand, allowing Clint to drift without using pedals.
After a quick rundown from the instructors, he was already out on the wet track, learning how to initiate, control angle, and use throttle to keep the slide going.
And the coolest part was how fast everything started to click.
With coaching from , each run got better and better. More angle, more confidence, more style.
By the end of the day, Clint was putting together legit runs and smiling the entire time.
He was really doing it.
This hand-controlled drift car was made possible with help from AutoZone, , and .
Easily one of the coolest things I’ve ever witnessed at a track.

Before students even initiate their first drift, we focus on fundamentals that make the entire learning process easier.

We teach where to look through a corner, how to hold the steering wheel properly, how throttle affects the rear tires, and how weight transfer changes the balance of the car.

A lot of beginners think drifting starts when the rear tires lose grip, but good drifting actually starts before the car even gets sideways.

Understanding how the car reacts mechanically makes everything feel more predictable once students begin drifting for real.

When drivers understand why the car behaves a certain way, they stop reacting emotionally and start making controlled adjustments.

Good drifting is built on fundamentals long before big angle or tire smoke happens.

The fastest way to improve at drifting is still the simplest answer: seat time.

More power, more angle, and more expensive parts won’t replace actual time behind the wheel. The drivers who improve quickly are the ones who repeatedly experience what the car feels like at the limit.

That repetition teaches you how weight transfer feels, how grip changes throughout a corner, and how small inputs affect the balance of the car.

Drifting is heavily based on feel and muscle memory. You can understand concepts online, but until you physically experience them, they won’t fully click.

Even short practice sessions help if you focus on improving one thing at a time instead of trying to master everything immediately.

The best drivers are usually just the ones who kept showing up consistently.

Tag someone who needs more seat time.

Confidence in drifting doesn’t come from going faster, it comes from understanding what the car is doing.

At Texas Drift Academy, we focus on giving students a controlled and predictable environment where they can learn step by step without feeling overwhelmed.

That starts with cars that react consistently, exercises that build fundamentals gradually, and instructors who explain exactly why the car behaves the way it does.

Once students understand how throttle, steering, and weight transfer work together, your intital fears turn into confidence.

The goal isn’t throwing someone into advanced drifting right away. It’s building trust in the car little by little until controlling a drift starts feeling natural.

Confidence comes from consistency, and consistency comes from understanding. This is what we do best.

Most spins don’t happen because a driver has too much angle. They usually happen because the balance of the car gets disrupted too suddenly. While they spin because you exceed angle.. its because of something else.

There's many different ways this can happen. A quick lift off the throttle, jerking the wheel mid-transition, or panicking and making a last-second correction can cause the rear to rotate faster than the front can recover.

That’s why drifting is really all about balance and smoothness. The smoother your steering, throttle, and transitions are, the more predictable the car becomes.

A lot of beginners think spinning means they need less commitment, but most of the time they actually just need calmer inputs and better timing.

The car usually gives warning signs before a spin happens. Learning to recognize those signs is what builds consistency.

Tag someone trying to stop spinning out.

We learned how to drift in Austin Texas in just one day, and honestly, I think everybody needs to try this at least once.
This is Texas Drift Academy, one of the biggest drifting schools in the country, where they’ll take you from learning how to drive manual to linking an entire track at 50MPH.. all in a single day.
Coming from somebody who had never drifted a car before, I’m not exaggerating when I say this was one of the most fun things I’ve ever done in my life. And the best part is, you’re not just getting one quick lap and sent home. They keep the groups small so you get a ton of seat time, real coaching, and constant runs throughout the day.
the craziest part is the instructors genuinely want to see you improve. Every coach out there was hyping me up after every run, helping me fix mistakes, and pushing me harder every session. By the end of the day I was linking corners I never thought I’d be able to do, and somehow even throwing entries I definitely had no business attempting on day one.
The progression is honestly insane.
So if you’re anywhere near Austin, or even visiting Texas, I’m telling you right now, this is something you absolutely do not want to miss

Pay attention to this video, it's gonna save you yearssss

Drifting isn't something you master in a day.

But it also doesn’t take years to start feeling comfortable.

With the right coaching and a consistent car, most beginners can start initiating and holding basic drifts within their first session. But linking corners, controlling angle, and driving consistently takes time and repetition.

Progress in drifting isn’t linear.

Some days everything clicks. Other days feel like a step backward.

What matters most is seat time and focusing on the fundamentals.

The drivers who improve the fastest aren’t the ones with the most horsepower or funding.

It's the ones who keep slowly getting better, and put the car back in gear no matter how many times they spin out.

Shoutout someone down below in the comments whos currently learning how to drift!

I bet you have no idea just how much the wheel can do all on it's own.

When you initiate a drift, the front wheels naturally countersteer as the rear steps out. That’s called self-steer, and it’s something you should be working with, not against.

If you try to force the wheel too much, you’ll end up overcorrecting and throwing the car off balance.

The key is knowing when to let it happen and when to step in.

During initiation and transitions, let the wheel move freely through your hands. As the drift settles, that’s when you start making small, controlled adjustments.

Think of it as guiding the wheel, not controlling every movement.

The more you trust the car’s natural steering, the smoother your drifting will feel.
