Here I'm working on a 1978 Johnson 70 hp. After going through the the ignition system and fuel system the engine still had a stubborn idle that wouldn't go below 1100 RPMs without stalling and would also stall when trying to shift into gear while in the water.
After observing the absence of exhaust coming from the idle relief ports I then proceeded to disassemble the engine down to the exhaust tube to find that the idle relief hole was completely clogged, not relieving the exhaust pressure while submerged in the water. Apologies for the dirty lense on this one.
