MNSU Motorsports Information and sponsor page for the Minnesota State University, Mankato Formula SAE Team.

Every year, the Minnesota State University, Mankato Formula SAE team competes in national competition with other college organizations from around the world. This is chosen by us as our capstone project for our BS in Automotive Engineering Technology. All vehicle components are designed or spec'd out by our student team, with most components and assemblies being one-off parts designed from scratch

. Much of the advanced manufacturing is donated through the gracious support of local businesses, with all funds used for purchases being raised by the team. We depend on this support to further our team, and appreciate everything that has been done for us.

Good afternoon all,
I had this video made for a couple weeks now. It’s been really busy with formula that I forgot to upload it. My apologies.

This video is from competition from this past May.

I make these videos so that the graduates can look back at this accomplishment. They can remind themselves that through perseverance, grit, and teamwork, they can achieve anything they want in life. When life gets tough, wherever they are in life, they can look back at this to remind themselves that tough times will eventually pass, just like this, and life will always be filled with unexpected twists and turns. But as long as they commit to their plans, they will succeed.

I also make these videos for the parents. Formula takes a lot of work and requires a lot of sacrifices. The project takes a lot of their time away from friends and family. These group of individuals dedicate so much time to make sure everything gets accomplished. Hopefully these videos will act like an open window for the parents to see their kids doing what they love.

Thanks to all sponsors , friends, and family that help us year after year. Congratulations to the seniors that have graduated.

Competition is is 27 days! We are doing a last minute push for fundraising as we approach the competition. While we’ve raised over $35,000 though your help via donations and company sponsorships, we want to be able to cover extra costs that may come up like new driver safety gear, tires and other competition items that would help the team compete.

Please see the link and help donate and share if you are able to. Again, thank you to everyone for their support this year.

For over 35 years, students of the Automotive & Manufacturing Engineering Technology program at Minnesota State University of Mankato have designed, engineered, built and tested small formula style race cars. The applicable skills learned throughout this process lead to countless post-graduation car...

Good evening all,
On behalf of the team, we would like to thank Justin for taking on every task we throw at him in helping us manufacture our designs. It’s always a blessing to be able to find talent so close to home. Justin is one of our Manufacturing Engineering students here at MSU.

Good afternoon all,

Check out the engine team running the engine dynamometer! This is where the engine voodoo magic happens.

We’re back with the 2025 Chassis Team! This team is responsible for the rigid frame, body and physical dynamics of the vehicle. It consists of nine seniors, each specializing in a specific system of the chassis. Due to design advantages and a bit of secrecy, some of the designs shown here are not the latest iteration, but they provide a glimpse into our processes and progress!

Our standard winter break from classes included two weeks of intense work with all hands on deck. This time was used to kick off the fabrication of the vehicle after finalizing designs and receiving materials. Over these weeks—and continuing into the spring semester—we’ve made significant progress on the frame and general fabrication. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our team, we are moving closer and closer to a fully functional race car.

This project is demanding, with a heavy workload for our relatively small team. We’re incredibly grateful to our friends and families for supporting us and understanding the sacrifices we’ve made to bring this project to life.

While Engine and Chassis have their designated systems to design and implement, every member—along with our juniors—has contributed to fundraising, manufacturing, organization, and communication for the team. Their efforts may not always be listed, but they are never forgotten. We couldn’t have gotten this far without everyone’s contributions. Let’s keep rolling towards competition!

Since fall classes wrapped up and the start of the holiday break, the team was able to make headway on the manufacturing of the 2025 FSAE car! Here is an introduction of our team members. Stay in touch to see our chassis team introductions soon!

Our Maverick Motorsports FSAE team is split between two major systems. Here is our 2025 Engine Team! For obvious reasons they are in charge of the engine itself and the power production. The engine team is comprised of 4 seniors that are in charge of individual systems. They have been working hard to maximize the power and efficiency based on the rules of the competition.

Starting off, we have our two engine team leads Ethan Zdon and Caleb Dockendorf. They have split duties of managing the development, testing and implementation of the sub-team goals. They also have individual systems that they are in charge of like the Fuel and Wiring of the vehicle respectively. Also with them is Robert Olsen, on the intake part of the vehicle and Caleb Kim, on the exhaust and welding of the vehicle.

Thank you to Cambria for being a Diamond Tier Sponsor for this year’s FSAE Team. With this support we are able to fund a huge part of our manufacturing and fabrication that has recently begun. Along with the donation, they extended an offer to have our team and advisors come out and tour their facility located here in Le Sueur Minnesota, along with a presentation from our Team Leads of our project summary, placement and manufacturing goals.

Cambria is a global engineered quartz surface and countertop manufacturer local to Minnesota. Cambria supports the project because it is a real world litmus test for what they are looking for in future engineers. Students who have been under pressure of fundraising, budget, presentations, deadlines and teamwork on a self driven project like Formula SAE form more engineers to look at the whole picture. We were shown how applicable our program is in the manufacturing industry with production lines, quality control, automation, and data acquisition to name a few.

Many alumni of the Automotive Engineering Technology (AET) and Manufacturing Engineering Technology (MET) program have found a home at Cambria. From the freedom and flexibility of the engineering processes they allow, it provides consistent creative challenges for engineers to want stay for decades.

Thank you again. Seeing the success and further possibilities of the graduates makes it seem less daunting and gives more hope for the team during the formula project crunch.
